Week 10 Report

REPORT WEEK 10
The Woodman & Gladiators ‘A’ fought out a thrilling and close game where Jeff Glenister for The Woodman (6-5-4) and Chris Jenkins for The Gladiators (5-6-4) excelled with fifteen dolls apiece. The Woodman set the opening leg with an impressive 29. In response The Glad’s left anchor man Kevin Baker six to tie the leg and he almost pulled it off, hitting five, missing with his fourth stick, just underneath.
The Glad’s then set and levelled in the next leg with 26, in reply Woodman fell two dolls short with 24. Final and deciding leg Gladiators could only set with a beatable 25 however The Woodman struggled and could only match it to send it to three sticks. A set of 13 in the shootout was enough to give The Gladiators the leg and match. Martin Cook for The Glad’s chipped in with fourteen dolls (5-4-5).
The Swan ‘A’ still lead the chasing pack after defeating The New Club ‘A’ 2-1. It started off well for the club men winning the opening leg 27-22. Swan responded well in the next leg to level 30-22. Final leg went to the Swan 26-23. Veteran Mick Berry had a mixed night hitting a one in his first throw, then followed that up with a six but failed to trouble the doll in his final throw.
Garsington Sports Club have lost top spot in Section One after their second successive home defeat, this time to The George ‘A’ who in turn recorded their first win in four games in the leg scores of 21-23, 21-19, 18-21.
The Black Prince had a comfortable 3-0 win at Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton with an impressive score of 32 in the middle leg. Roger Goodall with fourteen dolls (5-4-5) led the way as they won all three legs 26-16, 32-20, 24-17.
The Chequers ‘A’ are still seeking their first win of the season and almost pulled it off at home to The Swan ‘B’ but narrowly lost 2-1. The opening leg was tied 19-19 with The Swan winning it on three sticks. Swan then went two up in the next leg 26-18 before Chequers got a well-deserved point in the final leg 27-22. The Bells won the first two legs 21-19, 23-18 and then set 19 in the final leg. A steady reply from The Amp left anchor man Washington needing five to win the leg and he did not disappoint by clanging off the five dolls needed to give The Ampleforth a deserved point.

Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton are keeping up the pressure when they came away from Green Road Club ‘A’ with a 2-1 win. Three scores of 18 was enough to see them win the first two legs but lose the final one by one doll, Green Road replying with 17-14-19.

The top two met in Section 5 and it was leaders Cricketers Cowley who out on top against Vikings Sports ‘C’ in a very close exciting game.
