REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 24th JUNE

Section 3 leaders The Crown Chalgrove lost their unbeaten record in a shock loss at basement boys The Chequers ‘A’ 2-1. They got off to the perfect start winning the opening leg 27-16 but in the next leg chasing a set of 22 they fell well short with a reply of 17. The deciding leg Crown could only set with fifteen which Chequers passed with ease hitting 18 to win the leg and game.
Second place Masons Arms ‘B’ could not take full advantage as they dropped a leg at home to a six man Brill Sports Club ‘B’. After comfortably winning the first leg 21-11, they failed to beat a set of fourteen, falling one doll short with thirteen. Joe Bandrowski clanged off a six for Masons as they won the final leg 13-10. Bandrowski top scored with thirteen dolls (5-2-6).

In a high scoring Premier clash, Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington remain unbeaten after a close encounter at The Gladiators. The Glad’s set the opening leg with 28, Six Bells responded well to win it with a chase of 30. The Glad’s then set 32 in the next leg, but a four from The Bells anchor man Steve Ward tied the leg to send it to three sticks, which the Bell’s won. The Glad’s won a well deserved point in the final leg 31-26. Roger Goodall 15 (4-5-6) and Pete Rampton 13 (4-6-3) starred for The Six Bells while Geoff Townsend was top dog for The Glad’s with fourteen (5-4-5).
Barry Ruffels was in top form for Garsington Sports ‘A’ with fourteen dolls (4-4-6) but it could not prevent them from going down to a 2-1 home defeat to The Black Prince ‘A’. The first leg Prince won at a canter 28-22 but lost the next on three sticks after it was tied 22-22. The deciding leg Garsington set 24 and in reply Black Prince left anchor man Ian Grant needing three to win, which he done with ease clanging off five dolls to win the leg with 27. Grant top scored for the Prince with thirteen dolls (5-3-5).
Only two dolls separated Black Prince ‘B’ (75) and The Woodman (77) but it was The Woodman who came away victorious. The first leg Woodman set 21 and in reply Prince anchor man Neil Lyon whipped off the four dolls needed to tie the leg. However it was to be in vain as The Woodman won it on three sticks. Woodman went two up in the next leg 28-23. Prince came back powerfully in the final leg to set and win it 31-28. Paul Townsend (5-3-6) and Neil Lyon (4-5-5) both hit fourteen for The Black Prince while Neil Prately hit a six in his thirteen dolls (4-6-3) for The Woodman.
Section One leaders New Club ‘A’ were blown away by Yarnton British Legion 3-0. Mark Poulter led the way with a dozen dolls (3-5-4) as they won all three legs 23-20, 27-24, 26-17.

In Section 2 Steve Tooke was in fine form bagging himself a six in his fourteen doll haul (3-5-6) and lead The Golden Ball ‘a’ to a 3-0 home win against Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington in the leg scores of 21-13, 23-22, 23-12.
Jonny McMahon hit a rare six for The Bullnose Morris ‘A’ as they grabbed maximum points against visitors Kennington Social Club in a close game. Bullnose won the first leg by the odd doll 19-18, the second 26-22 and the third by the odd doll again 25-24. McMahon ended up with a baker’s dozen 2-6-5.
Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry hit more dolls than their visitors Ampleforth Arms ‘C’ (56-53) but still ended up losing 2-1.
The Amp won the first leg by the odd doll 18-17 lost the next 15-19 and then the third and deciding leg The Amp won on three sticks after it was tied 20-20.

In Section 4 Rose Hill Club ‘B’ and North Oxford Con Club both hit 46 dolls but it was The Con Club who came out on top 2-1. The set and won the opening leg 16-15 with Rose Hill levelling in the next leg 19-17. The final leg Con Club set and won 13-12.

Bottom team Green Road Club almost pulled off a shock against Section 6 leaders Six Bells ‘D’ Kidlington. The first leg was a long one as six sticks was tied 14-14, and three and one stick shoot outs could not separate them. Back to six sticks and Green Road won it 12-11. Six Bells recovered in the next two legs to win them and the game 16-9, 20-15. Paul Moss top scored for the Bells with eleven dolls (2-5-4) .

Steve Trotter top scored with ten dolls (3-3-4) as Section 8 leaders Donnington Club ‘B’ beat Northway Club ‘C’ 2-1 in the leg scores of 15-9, 11-16, 17-11.
Northway Club ‘B’ remain bottom but were unlucky in their home clash against The Original Swan ‘A’. Giving away a two doll handicap in each leg, they lost all three by the odd doll 16-17, 16-17, 11-12. Kevin Vickers Jnr was in top form for Northway with eleven dolls 4-3-4.
