Week 2
REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 6TH MAY
On a very windy and wet night, all players struggled to hit form. Alan Holt from The Black Prince ‘A’ however bucked the trend as he clanged off fourteen dolls (4-5-5) but it was all in vain as visitors The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ won 2-1. It was all over in the first two legs that the Ampleforth won 20-16, 25-23. Black Prince came back well in the final leg to win a point 25-23.
Jon Townsend hit a bakers dozen (4-4-5) to help The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington to a close fought victory over Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham. Six Bells lost the opening leg 21-23 then levelled in the next 27-22. Red Lion set the third and deciding leg with 22, which the Six Bells matched, and then went on to win the leg and game on three sticks.
The two doll handicap came into play and helped Yarnton British Legion beat Garsington Sports 2-1.
The sportsmen won the first leg 24-13 but lost the next two by two dolls, 21-19, 23-21. Henry Johnson for Yarnton top scored with a dozen dolls (4-3-5).
In Section 3 it was certainly unlucky thirteen for Chequers ‘C’ against visitors Tiddington Cricket Club. Chequers hit 13 in all three legs, but it was not enough as Tiddington passed that score in each leg 19-15-15 to claim maximum points.
The Griffin threw well in the first two legs away at Vikings Sports ‘A’ taking them 21-12, 20-14. They fell away slightly to let Vikings in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15.
Colin Barrett hit eleven dolls (4-2-5) for The Chequers ‘A’ but it could not prevent them from a 2-1 defeat at The Cricketers Cowley. The first two legs went to the Cricketers 15-13, 14-10, but a collapse in the final innings of a score of 7 let in The Chequers to take the final leg with 17.
In Section 5 Steven Rose from Donnington Club ‘C’ had mixed fortunes. He failed to trouble the doll with his first two throws and then clanged off a six in his final throw. However it could not prevent visitors North Oxford Con Club ‘A’ from coming away with the spoils 2-1 in the leg scores of 13-14, 8-11, 16-10.
It was very close between Chequers ‘B’ and Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington. Chequers set and won the opening leg by the odd doll 14-13 and then took the next leg 12-10. Chequers set the final leg with 13 but this time Six Bells passed it by the odd doll with 14 to grab a point. Bell’s Karl Grossman kept out of the blobbers section by hitting the doll with his final stick of the night!
Nathan O’Donnell shone for The Prince Of Wales with a dozen dolls (4-3-5) in Section 6 but they still lost out away at Rose Hill Club ‘C’ 3-0 in the leg scores of 17-17, 12-9, 17-12.
Only one doll separated Northway Club ‘A’ and The Democrats Club (33-32) in Section 7. The opening leg was tied 13-13 with Northway claiming it on three sticks. Northway then went two up in the next leg 9-8. The final leg was tied 11-11 but this time Democrats won the leg on three sticks.
Sam Macer from The Bullnose Morris ‘B’ was another player who just avoided the blobbers section when he clanged off the doll with his final stick in their 3-0 loss against The Berkshire House ‘A’, 11-10, 15-10, 15-6.
In Section 8 The Original Swan ‘A’ won the first two legs away at Northway Club ‘C’ 14-13, 10-8, but then fell to pieces in the final leg with a set of 3. Northway responded with 11 to claim a point.
