Week 1
Last season’s Premier winners The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington got off to the perfect start with a 3-0 win away at The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’. They won all three legs 32-18, 26-23, 27-25. Roger Goodall top scored with 15 dolls (4-6-5) and was well supported by Steve Ward with thirteen dolls (5-4-4).
It was not unlucky thirteen for New Club’s Adrian Shepherd as he whipped off a bakers dozen (3-5-5) in their 2-1 win at home over The Gladiators. They lost the opening leg 33-20 but came back well to win the next two legs 29-23, 27-19.
The Black Prince ‘A’ just got the better of their B team. The first leg was tied 25-25 with the A team wining it on three sticks. They then won the next leg 27-25 and took maximum points in the final leg 30-18. Steve Smith was top dog and bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul (4-3-6).
In Section 2 there was very little to separate The Bullnose ‘A’ and Florence Park ‘A’. The opening leg went to Florence Park by the odd doll 15-14. Bullnose levelled in the next leg 23-12. Florence Park set the final and deciding leg with 18. Bullnose replied leaving anchor man Willy Waite needing five to win, which he duly obliged hitting the winning doll with his final stick.
Gary Bailey whipped off a six in the winning opening leg for Red Lion ‘B’ Kidlington away at Rose Hill ‘A’ 25-20. Rose Hill responded well to level in the next leg 26-16. Red Lion set 26 in the final leg and it was just enough as Rose Hill came up one short in reply with 25. Baily top scored with a dozen dolls (6-1-5).
Chris Webb was in fine form with thirteen dolls 3-5-5 to guide The Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ to a maximum win at Vikings Sports ‘B’. Three leg scores of 18 saw them through to Vikings replies of 15-15-17.
In Section 5 North Oxford Con Club ‘B’ scored more dolls than their opponents Chequers ‘B’ (42-40) but they still lost 2-1. The club men won the opening leg 18-12 but lost the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 10-10. Chequers won the game in the final leg 18-14. Steve Jenkins top scored for The Chequers with nine dolls.
Robin Cooper was in top form has he clanged off thirteen dolls (4-4-5) to guide Rose Hill Club ‘C’ to a 2-1 win at The Three Horseshoes in Section 6.They won the first leg by the odd doll 13-12 but lost the next 13-17. Rose Hill upped their game in the final leg winning it easily 18-8.
In Section 8 only one doll separated The Chandos Arms and Pheasant Inn ‘B’ in a close contest. The opening leg Chandos set and won 13-12. Pheasant Inn levelled in the next leg 13-12. The final and deciding leg Pheasant set and won 13-12.
Another close game in Section 9 saw Headington Con Club just scrape by with a 2-1 over Kings Arms Kidlington. The first leg went to Kings Arms 7-6 with Con Club winning the next leg 6-5. The final leg went to the Con Club 8-6.
