Parent & Child
A great night of Aunt Sally at Littlemore British Legion saw holders Kevin & Ashley Stuart from Littlemore British Legion and James & 14 year old Harry Dineen from The Blackbird battled their way to the final of the Parent & Child competition. In a well-attended night where 16 pairs took part, including many youngsters, some good close games took place.
In the 1st Round the Dineen’s were up against Darren & Ian Grant from The White House and the first leg was tied 2-2, the Grants winning it on three sticks 4-3. Dineen’s levelled in the second leg 4-3. Dineen’s set the deciding leg with Harry hitting 2 and James hitting the only six of the night to give them a total of 8 which was enough to give them the leg and game.
The Stuart’s were pitted up against Garry and Danny Rees from The Blackbird and won both legs 5-4, 5-4.
In the next round James & Harry beat Andy & Zoe Beal in a low scoring game 3-1, 3-2.
The Stuart’s were drawn against teammates Dave & Ian Bowler and comfortably won the first leg with a set of 6. Stuarts set 4 in the second leg and in reply Ian needed 5 to win which proved to be no problem as he clanged off the five dolls needed to tie the leg. Final and deciding leg the Stuarts set and won the leg with a score of 8.
The first semi final was a real humdinger between the Dineen’s and Mark & Steve Bayliss from Littlemore British Legion where all three legs had to be decided on three or one stick. The first leg was tied 3-3 as was the three sticker 2-2 before James clanged off the only doll in the one sticker to give the Dineen’s an early lead. Second leg was tied 6-6 with Steve & Mark winning the three sticker 2-1 to level the game. The Final and deciding leg the Dinnen’s won the toss and put Steve and Mark in where they set 4. A 1 from Harry and 3 from James levelled the leg. The Dineen’s decided to set the three sticker, and it proved to be crucial as they set and won the leg 4-2 to put them though to the final.
The second semi-final was a straightforward win for Kevin & Ashley as they beat Harry & Mark Tilling from WADs bar winning both legs 3-2, 5-4.
It was an enjoyable night of Aunt Sally at a good venue with many close games and some good scoring with the added bonus of seeing many youngsters taking part which is the main aim of this competition.
