Week 10 July 2nd

REPORT WEEK 10
The red-hot weather brought out some blistering performances this week and leading the way was Dick Walsh from The White House who smashed off 15 dolls 5-5-5 to get the White House Premier title ambitions back on track after two consecutive defeats. Playing at home to The Masons Arms ‘A’ they completely blew them away 3-0 and got revenge from their defeat to them a few weeks ago. They won all three legs 30-25, 28-22, 26-21 with Roger Goodall chipping in with 14 dolls (5-5-4) for The White House.

The top two clashed in Section One with The Black Horse ‘A’ acquiring a vital win over leaders Littlemore British Legion ‘A’ and they had to come from behind to achieve it. Black Horse set the opening leg with 23 and it seemed to be enough when Legion only had 9 on the board at the halfway stage in return, however the tail wagged with anchorman Kevin Stuart hitting the three dolls needed to sneak the leg by the odd doll with 24. Legion set the second leg but capitulated and could only muster up a score of 12 which was never going to trouble the Horse who hit 21 in reply to level the game. Legion set the final and deciding leg with 20 and in return the Horse struggled and had to rely on anchorman Steve Walton to whip off the two dolls needed to win the leg by the odd doll with 21. Pete Rampton top scored with a dozen dolls (3-4-5).

The Swan had a comfortable night at Garsington Sports Club winning all three legs 23-15, 26-14, 25-22. Dan Reading bagging himself his first six of the season for The Swan in his 10-doll haul.

SECTION 2
Section 2 leaders Six Bells ‘C’ avenged their only defeat of the season to Duke of Monmouth by beating them at home 3-0 with some consistent throwing and a 14-doll haul from Jack Lane (4-6-4). Bells won the first two legs 22-15, 23-19 and set 23 in the final leg. A great start by The Duke had them on 16 dolls by the half way stage, however only 3 dolls from their last four players killed off any hopes of snatching a point to leave them with a total of 19.

Black Horse ‘B’ are still hot on the tail of the leaders after they came away from Donnington Club ‘B’ with a 3-0 win. Horse set and won the opening leg 15-9 and were then set a score of 15 in the second leg. Eight from their first two players were followed by five scores of one to leave anchorman Stuart Wells to clang off the three dolls needed to steal the leg by the odd doll with 16. Black Horse then completed the whitewash in the final leg 22-14.

Cowley workers are still propping up the table despite winning their second game on the bounce, this time at home to Rose Hill Club 2-1. Workers set 17 in the opening leg and in reply Rose Hill left their anchorman needing just 3 to win, however he blobbed out to give the Workers an early lead. Workers then went two up in the next leg 15-8. Rose Hill restored some pride in the final leg winning it 19-11.

WADs bar got off to a great start at The Blackbird winning the opening leg 21-17 thanks to a six from anchorman Mark Gunther. However, that was to their only success of the night as The Blackbird struck back in the next two legs winning them both 19-12, 14-11. Tom Finney top scored for The Blackbird with 10 dolls, including a maximum six (6-2-2).

Queens Head ‘A’ stopped their three-game losing streak when they beat visitors The Tandem 3-0. It was not a good night for The Tandem with their anchorman blobbing out all night they lost all three legs 14-12, 19-13, 15-13.

SECTION 3
In Section 3 Nikki Rudman for Littlemore Rugby Club became the first woman to hit a maximum six for 10 years in her 9-doll haul however it was all in vain as they lost out 2-1 to visitor’s Donnington Club ‘A’ who won the opening leg 16-13. Donnington set 15 in the second leg and in reply the Rugby club left anchorman Dave Lammin needing three to win and he didn’t disappoint to level the game. A set of 17 by Donnington was more than enough to see them over the line to win the leg and game as the Rugby club could only reply with 14. Jamie Debanks threw well for Donnington with 11 dolls (3-3-5).

Leaders New Club ‘B’ made it 10 wins out of 10 after they defeated Queens Head ‘B’ 3-0 at home. Chris Holton leading the way with 10 dolls (3-4-3) as they won all three legs 18-12, 21-15, 19-13.

Littlemore British Legion ‘B’ languish at the foot of the table after their latest defeat to Vikings Sports ‘B’. Damage was all done in the first two legs when they lost them both 9-16, 9-11. Legion regained some pride when they set and won the final leg 16-11.

Red Lion Yarnton had a fine 3-0 away win at Bletchingdon Sports, winning the first two legs 15-11, 11-9 they then set 16 in the final leg. In reply Bletchingdon just fell short by the odd doll with 15 and couldn’t prevent the whitewash, Steve Bowers was in top form for The Lion hitting a dozen dolls (5-4-3).

Cricketers move into second spot after a 2-1 win over The Masons Arms ‘B’ on their own patch. There was some mixed scoring going from one extreme to the other, which showed in all three legs. Cricketers set and won the first leg 13-9, then Masons almost doubled their score in the second leg with a set of 17, Cricketers dropping down to a lowly 8 in reply. A good set of 17 by The Cricketers in the final leg was more than enough as standards dropped again for The Masons with a return score of only 7.

SECTION 4
Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ are only one of two teams to remain unbeaten this season after they silenced the roar of The Red Lion Cassington with maximum points. They set and won all three legs 12-9, 14-8, 16-13. Chris Williams was top dog for The Amp with 10 dolls (4-3-3).
Headington Con Clubs title ambitions were dealt a blow when they lost 3-0 at The Golden Ball who produced their best scores of the season winning all three legs 13-9, 20-14, 22-15.
