Week 7 June 4th

PREMIER/SECTION 1
Mark Bayliss clanged off 14 dolls (5-5-4) for Littlemore British Legion ‘A’ but it was to no avail as they lost at home to Masons Arms ‘A’ 2-1. It was a long night as two legs went to three stickers. Masons set the opening leg with 20 and in reply a three from anchorman Kevin Stuart tied the leg. Legion winning the three sticker 11-10. Masons set and won the second leg 22-20 Final and deciding leg Legion set with 18 which Masons matched to send it into its second three stick leg. This time Masons came out on top 9-8 to win the leg and game. Chris Webb top scored for The Masons with a dozen dolls (4-5-3).

James Morrison (3-3-6) and Luke Purcell (2-4-6) both bagged themselves a six in their 12-doll hauls for the New Club as they came from behind to beat Garsington Sports Club in the village derby. New Club could only muster up a set of 20 in the opening leg and in reply Garsington left anchorman Trevor Greenaway needing three to win which was no problem as he went one better hitting four dolls to win the first leg with 22. Garsington set the second leg with 20 and a slow start in response by New Club was picked up by the tail and they passed it with 23 to level the game. A set of 22 in the final and deciding leg by Garsington was never going to be enough with Morrison and Purcell giving New Club the perfect start with two sixes and to finish the leg with an impressive 28 to win the leg and game.

The Swan had a valuable 3-0 win at home to Yarnton British Legion with Ashley Keenan (4-3-5) Mark Rollins (3-4-5) and Mark Hewitson (4-5-3) all hitting a dozen dolls. Setting all three legs Swan won the first two 24-12, 24-21 and then set 26 in the final leg. It seemed a formality when Yarnton only had 13 on the board with three to go, however four from Mark Lacey and a six from Mark Poulter left anchor man Steve Rogers needing three to tie and four to win. Unfortunately, he couldn’t quite finish the comeback and a hit of two that left them one short to give The Swan the leg and the maximum win. Poulter was top dog for the Legion with 13 dolls (4-3-6).

The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ three match winning streak came to an end when visitors Littlemore British Legion ‘C’ defeated them 2-1. The Amp set the first leg with 23 and in reply Legion left anchorman Kevin Baker needing four to win which proved to be no problem as he whipped off five dolls to give the Legion an early lead with 25. Legion could only muster up a set of 18 in the second leg which The Amp passed with ease hitting 26 to level the game. Legion set in the final leg with a beatable 22, however a slow start by The Amp put too much pressure towards the end and they fell one short with 21 to give Legion the leg and game. Kevin Baker was top scorer for the Legion with a baker’s dozen (5-3-5).

Premier leaders White House are on a roll, after losing their first game of the season they have now won six on the bounce, their latest victory a 2-1 win away at Black Horse ‘A’ however it could easily have been a 2-1 loss. Black Horse set and won the opening leg by the tightest of margins 25-24. White House then set the second leg with a lowly score of 22. A good start by The Black Horse in reply gave them 14 on the board at the halfway stage, however a collapse by the back end of the team saw them fall two dolls short with 20. White House then completed the turnaround in the final leg 26-19.

SECTION 2
In Section 2 Rose Hill’s four game losing streak ended when they beat The Tandem 2-1 at home where only one doll separated the teams overall. Rose Hill raced into a two nil lead winning both legs 14-11, 13-12. The Tandem set and won the final leg 16-13 for a deserved point.

Duke Of Monmouth had a disastrous start at home to The Blackbird when they could only set a score of 11 in the first leg, Blackbird flying past that with 16. Duke set the second leg and more than doubled their first leg score with an impressive 25. Despite a six from captain Tom Finney, Blackbird fell short with 20 in reply. Duke set and won the final leg 19-17 to complete the recovery from the first leg blow.

Unbeaten leaders Six Bells ‘C’ record was at risk when they lost the opening leg to visitors WADs bar 15-17 but they recovered well to win the next two legs 25-20, 23-15. Richard Taylor top scored with 11 dolls, while Mark Tilling and Oli Ludlow did likewise for WADs Bar.

Black Horse ‘B’ only trail the leaders by two points after they had a comfortable night at Cowley Workers, winning all three legs 16-10, 15-13, 23-8. Alan Surman was in top form smashing off a dozen dolls (5-3-4) for The Horse.

Donnington Club ‘A’ rise up the table continues as they recorded their third win on the trot, this time at home to Queens Head ‘A’ who was on a three-game winning streak. Queens could only set 11 in the first leg, Donnington coasting past that with ease hitting 19. Queens then set 14 in the second leg with Donnington just sneaking past that with 15. Looking to complete the Whitewash Donnington set the final leg but could only just hit double figures with a score of 10, which should have been a formality for Queens, however they struggled and crawled over the line by the smallest of margins with 11 to give them a much-needed point.

SECTION 3
In Section 3 New Club ‘B’ remain unbeaten after their latest victory over Littlemore Rugby Club 2-1. They set and won the first two legs 15-12, 18-14. Rugby Club set 13 in the final leg and looking to complete the maximum win New Clubs standards dropped and they could only hit 11 in reply. Dave Rudman for the Rugby club the only player to hit double figures (3-3-4).

Vikings Sports ‘B’ are still seeking their first win of the season after they lost for the seventh time, this time away at Red Lion Yarnton 2-1, despite Gary Smith hitting double figures for the first time this season (5-2-4). Lion won the opening leg 18-16. Vikings hit straight back in the second leg to level 15-13. A set of 15 in the final leg by the Lion was too much for Vikings who could only hit 10 in reply.
Masons Arms ‘B’ sprinted into a two-nil lead at home to Littlemore British Legion ‘B’ winning both legs 15-9, 16-9 and then set 14 in the final leg looking to complete the whitewash. However, Legion pulled themselves off the floor and hit 15 in reply to snatch the leg and grab a precious point. Top doll scorer Joe Bandrowski hit 11 dolls (3-4-4).

Bletchingdon Sports set all three legs at home to The Cricketers winning two of them 17-16, 14-11 and losing one 11-14.
Queens Head ‘B’ had a dreadful first two legs at home to Donnington Club ‘A’ losing them both 8-10, 10-19, however they regrouped in the final leg and chasing a set of 15 they passed that with 18 to give them a deserved point.

SECTION 4
Chris Cox bagged himself a six, the first player in Section 4 this season, in his 10-doll haul (6-2-2) for Headington Con club in their 3-0 win at home to Vikings Sports ‘C’. The Con Club had no problems winning the first two legs 20-11, 13-7 and then were set 10 in the third leg. In reply Con club left anchorman Steve Bennett just two to win and he went one better whipping off three dolls to give them the maximum win.

Six Bells B had to fight hard for their 2-1 win at The Golden Ball. They set and won the first leg 16-13 and then chasing a set of 16 in the second leg they only had five on the board at the halfway stage and things were looking bleak. However the tail wagged and three dolls from anchorman Terry Lester tied the leg, but it was to no reward as Golden Ball won the three sticker. Final and deciding leg Bells won 18-12. Simon Hopkins top scored with 11 dolls (4-3-4).
Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ remain unbeaten when they won all three legs away at The White Hart, 17-11, 13-11, 16-12.
Kidlington FC hit their best score of the season and ran out 3-0 winners at home to Red Lion Cassington 15-10, 13-9, 15-9.
