WEEK 16

With just two weeks of the season to go all sections are still up for grabs. However, not sure if there was something in the water, the weather or what, but for the first time that I can remember we had no sixes, and the highest score was 12! Premier Section leaders The White House remain two points clear after defeating Section One leaders Littlemore British Legion 3-0. White House set and won the opening leg 28-25, then chasing a set of 21 in the second leg White House sneaked past it with 23 to go two up. The final leg was tied 25-25 with the White House winning it on three sticks with a set of 13. This defeat still leaves the Legion needing one more point to claim the Section 1 title. Rob Bradford for The White House top scored with a dozen dolls (5-2-5).
The Gladiators are pushing all the way with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to The Swan. They won the first two legs 25-20, 26-20 and the final leg 24-22.
Catherine Wheel ‘A’ kept their faint hopes of the Section One title alive with a 2-1 win at North Leigh FC. Chasing the first two legs, The Wheel won them both 24-19, 22-18, however they couldn’t quite make it a maximum win losing the final leg by the smallest of margins 19-20.
The Black Horse ‘A’ had to come from behind to defeat visitors Yarnton British Legion 2-1, who were playing with a player short. Losing the first leg 17-20, The Horse easily won the next two legs 21-9, 18-10.

SECTION 2
Leaders Catherine Wheel ‘C’ dropped a vital point away at Queens Head. Chasing all three legs they won the opener 21-16 but chasing a set of only 16 in the next leg they collapsed to finish with only 11 in return. Final and deciding leg Queens set with 18 which was not enough as Catherine Wheel upped their game and hit 20 in reply to claim the win. Josh Breakspear top scored with a dozen dolls (5-2-5).
Second place Masons Arms ‘A’ also dropped an important point away at The Seacourt Bridge and it could easily have been more. The opening leg was tied 14-14 with Seacourt winning it on three sticks 8-5. Masons set and levelled in the next leg 22-17. Final leg was also tied, 17-17 however this time Masons won the three sticker 7-5 to give them the win.
The Ampleforth Arms are ready to pounce if the top two collapse after their 3-0 home win over Bletchington Sports. They won all three legs 18-14, 19-12, 16-12.
The Blackbird made it three wins out of three when they defeated visitors Vikings Sports 3-0 in the leg scores of 15-10, 16-11, 11-9.

SECTION 3
Six Bells ‘C’ still top Section 3 by two points despite losing a leg at home to Northway Club ‘B’. They easily won the first two legs 19-12, 16-9 and then set 12 in the final leg. In reply Northway doubled their score in the second leg to hit 18 and take a consolation point.
Second place The Tandem took advantage and won all three legs at home to The New Cub ‘B’. The opening leg could have been a disaster, however they sneaked it 10-8. Both teams upped their game in the next two legs, but it was The Tandem who had that bit extra and won both legs 21-16, 21-17.
Rose Hills slim chances of catching the leaders look even slimmer after they dropped a leg away at The Cricketers. Winning the first two legs at a canter 14-10, 16-10 they then set 12 in the final leg. Cricketers rallied and sailed past that with 18.
Headington Con club who tasted victory last week after eight straight defeats must have enjoyed it as they followed that up with another win, this time at home to Six Bells ‘B’. They had to do it the hard way after losing the opening leg 13-11, they composed themselves and chasing two sets of 11 & 13 they passed them both with 14 & 17.

SECTION 4
Littlemore Rugby Club need just two more points to be crowned champions after their 3-0 win at home to The George. Chasing a set of 11 in the opening leg proved to be no problem for The rugby club as they passed that with ease hitting 18. In the second leg chasing a set of only 10 proved to be more difficult and they had to rely on anchor man Dave Lammin to whip of the two dolls needed to give them the leg with 11. Final leg was more comfortable winning it 14-10.
Donnington Clubs title ambitions took a massive hit when they lost at The Golden Ball 2-1. The damage was all done in the first two legs, losing them both 13-15, 13-16, however they did manage to salvage a point in the final leg 16-12.
Only one doll separated The Catherine Wheel ‘B’ and Ampleforth ‘B’ overall, but it was the Amp that came away victorious. With the game nicely poised at one leg each, Catherine Wheel set the final leg with 12. A steady reply by The Amp left anchor man Chris Williams needing only 2 to win which he succeeded.
Red Lion Yarnton started off impressively against Northway C, set 15 in the first leg, they left anchor-man Nelson Smith 3 to win, and he went two better clanging off five dolls to give them a total of 18 and the leg, however it went all downhill after that when they lost the next two legs 17-9, 18-8.
Red Lion Cassington beat The White Hart 2-1 in the leg scores of 9-4, 6-8, 11-9.
