Week 8

Games played on Wednesday 21st June

Kevin Stuart was in scintillating form as he clanged off fifteen dolls (6-5-4) for The George ‘A’ but it was all in vain as visitors Garsington Sports ‘A’ won 2-1 in a high scoring game. Garsington set and won the opening leg 28-26 with The George levelling in the next leg 26-24. The final and deciding leg Garsington won 30-22. Clive Proudfoot was top dog for the Sportsmen with fourteen dolls (4-5-5).

It started off brightly for The Swan as they set and won the first leg 26-20. They then set 23 in the next leg but it was not to be enough as The Pigeons flew past that with 28 in reply to set up an exciting last leg. Premier leaders The Gladiators ‘A’ came away with a 2-1 win against a good Swan ‘B’ side. Swan set the opening leg with 25 and in reply Kevin Giles gave The Glad’s the perfect start with a six, however they still left anchor man Keith Weller needing three to win the leg and he produced the goods whipping the winning doll off with his last stick. Glad’s could only muster up a set of 22 in the next leg which The Swan passed with ease hitting 27 in reply to level the match. The toss was important in the final leg and Glad’s won it and decided to set and hit a formidable score of 30. Swan could only reply with 24 to give The Glad’s a crucial victory.
There was an exciting finish in the clash between The Black Prince & Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton. With the game nicely poised at a leg each The Black Prince set 23 in the final leg. Red Lion stuttered in their reply and left anchor man Eddie Lacey needing all six to win the leg, and he did not disappoint knocking all six off to claim a close win. Rob Bradford bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul (6-4-3) for The Black Prince.
Pip Goulding was back on form for The New Club ‘A’ hitting fourteen dolls (5-5-4) as they beat Section One leaders The Woodman 2-1 at home. Damage was all done in the first two legs which the New Club won 32-22, 26-26 (on three sticks). The Woodman grabbed a point in the final leg 27-24
