Week 3 7th May

New Club ‘A’ was in sensational form as they clanged off 89 dolls in their 2-1 home win against Littlemore British Legion C. They set a daunting 34 in the opening leg which destroyed the Legion as they could only hit 16 in reply. Setting in the second leg, Legion upped their game and hit an impressive 27.In reply New Club hit 16 with their top four players, however their next three players could only muster up six dolls leaving anchorman Pete Shepherd needing a maximum six to win and he nearly pulled it off, after missing with his first stick he clanged off the next five to take it to a three sticker. Legion set and won it 13-10. New Club set and won the final and deciding leg 28-17. Luke Purcell (5-5-3) Mark Washington (5-4-4) and Pete Shepherd (3-5-5) all hit 13 dolls for the New Club while Kevin Baker hit 14 (4-5-5) for the Legion.
White House came away from The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ with maximum points winning all three legs 26-23, 21-20, 24-21. Roger Goodall top scored for the White House with a baker’s dozen (5-4-4) while Stuart Bishop done the same (5-3-5) for The Ampleforth.
Marcus Reading (3-5-5) and Ashley Keenan (4-4-5) both were in top form hitting 13 dolls for The Swan at Littlemore British Legion ‘A’ but it was to no avail as they lost out 3-0. Swan set 18 in the opening leg and in return Legion left anchorman Kevin Stuart just two win which he duly obliged. Legion then went on to win the next two legs 24-20, 26-23.
Masons Arms ‘A’ secured their first win of the season taking all three legs at Garsington Sports 16-12, 14-12, 21-8.
In a low scoring game where only one player hit double figures Black Horse ‘A’ defeated hosts Yarnton British Legion 3-0 in the leg scores of 20-18, 18-13, 16-10.

In Section 2 Black Horse ‘B’ and Queens Head ‘A’ fought out a close thrilling encounter. Queens set the first leg with 18 and in reply anchorman Stuart Wells for the Horse whipped off the two dolls needed to tie the leg and send it to a three sticker, which the Horse won. Second leg Horse set and won by the smallest of margins 23-22. The Black Horse then completed the whitewash in the final leg 20-13.
The local derby between Cowley Workers and The Blackbird resulted in the Bird getting their first win of the season winning all three legs 17-16, 25-11, 19-15.
Adam Baker clanged off the only six of the night in his 11-doll haul for Duke Of Monmouth’s 2-1 win at home to Rose Hill Club. Duke setting all three legs won the first 17-13, Rose Hill levelled in the next 22-19 with The Duke winning the final leg 21-17. Mark Faulkner was in fine form for Rose Hill hitting 13 dolls (5-5-3).
The Six Bells C made it three wins out of three when they came away from The Tandem with maximum points. It was a comfortable night for The Bells winning all three legs 18-15, 18-14, 21-12.
Donnington Club ‘B’ slightly got the better of WADS bar with just four dolls separating the teams over all. Donnington took an early lead setting and winning the first leg 18-15. WADS set the next leg with 18 and in reply Donnington fell one short with 17. Wads set the final and deciding leg with 12 however it wasn’t quite enough as Donnington hit 14 to claim the leg and game. Phil Cassidy was top dog for Donnington with 11 dolls (5-3-3).

It was a long night between Bletchingdon Sports and Donnington Club ‘A’ in Section 3 with two legs going to three sticks. The first leg was tied 16-16 with Donnington winning it on three sticks, they then won the next leg 11-9. Final leg was also tied 12-12 and this time Bletchingdon came out on top in the three sticks to claim a deserved point. Jamie Debanks threw well for his 10 dolls (3-3-4) for Donnington.
New Club ‘B’ remain unbeaten after they beat Vikings Sports B 2-1 who are still seeking their first win. It started of well for Vikings when they won the first leg 14-11. They then set 12 in the second leg with New Club matching it and then winning it on three sticks. New Club set the final leg with 16 which proved to be just enough as Vikings fell two short in their chase with 14.
Queens Head B raced into a two-nil lead at home to Red Lion Yarnton winning the legs 12-11, 16-11 and was looking to make it a maximum in the final leg. However Red Lion almost doubled their score in the final leg setting with 21, which was needed as Queens hit 19 in reply to fall just two short giving the Lion a precious point.
Masons Arms ‘B’ inflicted the first defeat for Littlemore Rugby club in a tight match where all three legs were too close to call. The opening leg Masons set 17 and in response the Rugby club left anchorman Malcolm Bough needing five to tie and he nearly pulled it off but fell just one short to give the Masons an early lead. Second leg Rugby club set with 15 and this time Masons left their anchor man Joe Bandrowski needing four to win, and he was up to the task and going one better he whipped off five dolls to put the Masons two up. Final leg was tied 14 -14 with Littlemore winning it on three sticks for a justified point.
Cricketers inflicted Littlemore British Legion ‘B’ with their third consecutive defeat when they beat them 2-1 in a very tight game. Cricketers won the first leg 17-15 and then set 11 in the second leg. Anchorman Dean Jacobs came to Legions rescue by clanging off the three dolls needed to win the leg by the odd doll with 12. Legion could only muster up a set of 9 in the final leg, however Cricketers barely got over the line with a reply of 10 to give them the leg and game.

Section 4 has three teams level at the top with Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ making it three wins out of three when they beat the Golden Ball on their own patch 2-1. The Amp won the first leg 12-9. Golden Ball set the second leg, and it wasn’t looking good after five players had thrown, they only had 8 on the board, however the tail wagged and 11 dolls from the last three players gave them an impressive total of 19. A slow start by The Amp in reply meant they only had 6 on the board at the halfway stage, they rallied at the end but could not quite get over the line and ended up two short with 14. Amp set the final leg with an imposing 18 which was more than enough as Golden Ball hit 11 in reply to give the Amp the leg and match win. Adam Woodley for The Ampleforth top scored with 11 dolls (4-3-4).
Headington Con Club had a good night at The White Hart and consistent throwing saw them take maximum points 13-10, 13-7, 12-7.
Kidlington FC smelt victory for the first time this season when they beat a depleted Vikings C team. However, they only just sneaked the first leg by the odd doll 9-8, before winning the next two 10-3, 12-7.
Red Lion Cassington won all three legs at The Catherine Wheel 8-6, 10-8, 10-7. Mark Finch roared the loudest for the Lion with 9 dolls (2-4-3).
Six Bells B claimed all three points against The Crown who failed to raise a team.
