WEEK 3

REPORT WEEK 3
Dave Simms was in magnificent form as he clanged off 15 dolls (4-5-6) for The New Club as they came away from local rivals Garsington Sports club with all three points. They won all three legs 26-24, 30-25, 27-22. Barry Ruffels top scored for Garsington with 13 dolls (4-5-4).
Kevin Stuart’s sensational form continues when he hit 14 dolls (5-3-6) for the second week running, however it was all in vain as Littlemore British Legion lost to The White House 2-1. White house set and won the opening leg 30-27 and in the second leg chasing a set of 26 they left anchor man Mick Phipps needing five to win, and he was up to the task clanging off the winning doll with his final stick to give them a 2-0 lead. The final leg The Legion set and won 27-25. Rob Bradford was top dog for The White House with 14 dolls (5-5-4).
Catherine Wheel stunned North Leigh FC by claiming all three points at home in a close contest. Setting all three legs The Wheel won the opener 19-18 and had to rely on a three stick shoot out in the second leg after it was tied 23-23. They then completed the whitewash in the final leg 22-19.
Black Horse ‘A’ came away from Yarnton British Legion with a 2-1 win. They won the first leg 18-14, lost the next on three sticks after it was tied 19-19 and won the deciding leg 23-20.

In Section 2 Black Horse ‘B’ solid start to the season continues when they had to come from behind to beat visitors Duke Of Monmouth 2-1.The opening leg was tied 16-16 with the Duke winning the leg on three sticks. Black Horse levelled in the next leg 23-18 and then galloped over the line in the final leg 17-15.
Blecthingdon Sports are still seeking their first win when they lost 3-0 at home to Ampleforth Arms ‘A’, however the scores were much closer then the scoreline suggests. The first leg Amp set with 16 and in reply Bletchingdon left anchorman Walter Harwood needing 5 to win, and he nearly pulled it off but fell one short with 4 to send it to three sticks, which The Amp won. A set of 13 by the sports men was not enough in the second leg as the Amp sneaked past that with 15. The final leg was another tight one with the Amp setting and just winning it by the odd doll 19-18.
Masons Arms ‘A’ struggled at home to Seacourt Bridge with some inconsistent throwing over the three legs. Chasing a set of 17 in the opening leg they could only muster up a reply of 10. Chasing a set of 13 in the second leg Masons more than doubled their first leg score with 21 to level the game. In the final and deciding leg Seacourt set again this time with 17, and this time Chequers dropped a doll a man to end up with a total of 13 to give Seacourt their first win of the season.

In Section 3 Cowley Workers made it three wins out of three when they beat Masons Arms ‘B’ at home 2-1 with both teams hitting the same number of dolls. The Workers, playing with one player short, raced to a 1-0 lead in the first leg 16-11. Masons set the second leg with 18 and it seemed to be enough when the Workers left anchor man Eamon Hanlon needing 5 to win, he almost succeeded but fell one short with 4 to send it to three sticks, which the Workers won. Masons won the last leg for a well-deserved point 18-13. Hanlon top scored with a dozen dolls (4-4-4).
Northway Club ‘B’ also remain unbeaten when they had to come from behind to beat Six Bells ‘C’ 2-1 in a tight contest. Bells won the opener 15-13, Northway hitting straight back in the next leg 15-13. Northway claimed the win in the final leg setting and winning it 15-13.
Cricketers Arms are the third team to keep their unbeaten record alive when they came away from Rose Hill Club with a 2-1 win. Chasing a set of 17 by Rose Hill in the first leg Cricketers fell apart and could only hit 10 in reply. They regrouped in the next leg and won it at ease 19-12. Final and deciding leg Cricketers won 15-12.

In Section 4 Six Bells ‘B’ are still seeking their first win of the season when they lost at home to Headington Con club 2-1 who in turn claimed their first win of the season. It was a close game that could have gone either way, with The Con club winning the first leg 15-11. Second leg the club men won by the smallest of margins 15-14 then set the final leg with 16. With less than half the score on the board in reply it was looking good for maximum points for the Con club, however the last three players rallied for the Bells and anchorman Henry Clark finished off the job by hitting the 4 dolls needed to give the Bells a justified point.
The George made it 3 wins out of 3 when they beat Littlemore Rugby Club at home 3-0. The first two legs were very close 15-14, 16-14 before The George won the last leg with an impressive 22 dolls to the Rugby clubs 10. Malcolm Bough for Littlemore top scored with 10 dolls (4-3-3).
Red Lion Yarnton and Northway Club ‘C’ both hit the same number of dolls 46, but it was the hosts Red Lion who came away victorious. They sneaked the opening leg 17-16, lost the next 13-17 and won the decider 16-13. Jack Lane threw well for his 10 dolls (3-4-3) for Northway.
Late entrant to the league Ampleforth Arms ‘B’, playing with a couple of players short, done well to take a point at home to Catherine Wheel ‘B’. They won the first leg 8-6 but could not match Catherine Wheels next two leg score of 14 & 17 replying with 7 & 10.
