WEEK 1

On a cold and brisk night, the Oxford Aunt Sally season got under way with Premier Section holders The White House crashing at home to North Leigh Football club 3-0. Jeff Glenister was in terrific form clanging off 15 dolls (5-5-5) while teammate Ray Grant chipped in with a dozen dolls (3-5-4) for Noth Leigh as they won all three legs 26-22, 27-23, 31-22.
Gladiators Club had a worthy 3-0 win at Littlemore British Legion. Kevin Giles led the way with 14 dolls (4-5-5) Top doll scorer from last season Kevin Baker assisted with a dozen dolls (4-4-4) as Gladiators set and won all three legs 26-22, 29-26, 28-22. Kevin Stuart top scored for the Legion with a baker’s dozen (4-5-4) while Mark Bayliss (Legion) and Scott Thompson (Glad’s) both hit a six.
James Morrison got New Club ‘A’ off to a good start when he clanged off 13 dolls (4-4-5). Despite losing the opening leg 26-20 to Catherine Wheel ‘A’ they rallied in the next two legs winning them both 25-24, 20-15.
John Brown was in sensational form as he whipped off 15 dolls (4-5-6) for Black Horse ‘A’ in their 2-1 home win against The Swan. Black Horse took an early lead in the first leg 17-15, with The Swan hitting straight back in the second leg 23-19. Black Horse won the final leg 23-15.
Only one doll separated Garsington Sports club & Yarnton British Legion in a close contest. Garsington set and won the opening leg by the odd doll 19-18. Yarnton levelled in the next leg 17-14. Final and deciding leg Garsington set and won 18-15.

In Section 2 Masons Arms hit the top leg score of the night when they hit an impressive 30 dolls in their home clash with Duke Of Monmouth. Masons won all three legs 25-12, 20-19, 21-15.
Catherine Wheel ‘C’ got of to the perfect start when they visited The Blackbird and whitewashed them 3-0. Josh Breakspear was top dog with 13 dolls (5-4-4) in the Wheels comfortable leg scores of 20-11, 23-18, 20-12.
It was a long night at Vikings Sports against Blethingdon Sports when the last two legs went to three sticks. A very tight games saw Vikings take the first leg 18-16.Vikings then set 15 in the second leg and in return Bletchingdon matched it with anchorman Walter Harwood whipping off four dolls to tie the leg, however it was all in vain as Vikings won the leg on three sticks. Vikings then set the last leg with 16 and again in return Harwood hit four dolls to tie the leg, however once again Vikings won the leg on three sticks to give them the maximum win. Harwood top scored on the night with 13 dolls (5-4-4).
There was very little to separate the Seacourt Bridge and Queens Head with the first two legs going to three sticks after they were tied 17-17, 16-16. Queens won them both on three sticks 9-7, 6-5. Seacourt Bridge grabbed a well-deserved point in the final leg 17-14.
Black Horse ‘B’ won the opening leg at The Ampleforth Arms 21-18. The Amp levelled straight away in the second leg 21-17. Black Horse then set 24 in the final leg, which just proved to be enough as the Amp fell just two short with 22.

In Section 3 Six Bells B had an easy opening leg win against Rose Hill SC. 17-9, however that was to be their only success as Rose Hill improved and won the next leg 16-12 and completed the turnaround in the final leg 13-10.
Cricketers Arms set the first leg at home to New Club ‘B’ with 14 and in reply New Club just fell agonisingly short by one doll with 13. Cricketers went two up in the next leg 15-11 then set 13 in the last leg and it looked to be enough to give them a maximum win as New Club could only hit 9 in reply with just anchor man Chris Holton needing 5 to win, and he was up to the task clanging off the five dolls needed to give the New Club a point.
Newly promoted Six Bells ‘C’ and The Tandem fought out an exciting tight game where only two dolls separated the teams all night. Bells set and won the first leg 14-13. Tandem set the next leg with 16 and the Bells had to thank their anchor man Nick Edmonds who hit the four dolls needed to snatch the leg by the odd doll with 17. The final leg was tied 19-19 with the Bells winning the leg on three sticks.
Despite playing with a player short Cowley Workers managed to come away from Headington Con club with all three points in the leg scores of 13-13 (one stick shoot out) , 14-10, 16-11.

In Section 4 the local derby between Littlemore Rugby Club & Golden Ball was a close affair with the Rugby club getting over the line first. Golden Ball took an early lead winning the first leg 15-10. The Rugby club recovered well and won the next two legs 17-14, 15-12.
The game between Catherine Wheel B and Donnington Club had to be decided on a three sticker after the first two legs were shared. Donnington winning the final leg on three sticks.
The George won the first two legs at home to Northway club ‘C’ 9-5, 10-9 but couldn’t complete the whitewash when Northway hit back well to win the final leg 14-6.
The clash between the two Red Lions saw Yarnton roar the loudest as they came away with all three points at Cassington. A strong performance form Yarnton saw them through 13-11, 21-12, 16-9.
