REPORT WEEK 18
In a dramatic last week of games where positions changed after each leg, two of the sections will go to a play off. In Section One, the George ‘A’ need all three points at home to The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ to claim the title and it looked good for them when they won the first two legs 18-17, 23-15. However, chasing a set of 20 in the final leg they came up short by three dolls with 17, to finish level at the top with The Blackbird ‘A.’ Kevin Stuart was in top form again for The George with thirteen dolls (3-6-4).
Premier Champions Black Prince ended the season with their only second defeat of the season when they lost at North Leigh FC 2-1. It started of well for The Prince when they won the opening leg 27-25, however with the three-doll handicap North Leigh turned the game around winning the next two legs 27-21, 32-27. Geoff Glenister was in exceptional form bagging himself a six in his fourteen-doll haul (4-4-6).
The Swan ‘A’ finished runners up when after they came from behind to beat Gladiators ‘A’ 2-1. The opening leg was tied 22-22 with The Glad’s winning the leg on three sticks. Swan levelled in the next leg 26-24 and them completed the comeback in the final leg 29-23.
The local derby between Garsington sports club and New club ended up with the New club on top 2-1. Ade Shepherd was top dog for the New Club with a baker’s dozen (3-5-5) in the scores of 14-22, 21-20, 19-15.

The Section two title went right down to the wire, and it was The Six Bells ‘A’ that held their nerve the best when they had to come from behind to beat Gladiators ‘B’ 2-1. It was not looking good after the first leg when they lost it 15-13, however two scores of 21-19, 21-19 saw them through and claim the title by two points.
Red Lion ‘B’ Kidlington needed to match the Bells result to force a playoff, but their opponents Red Lion Yarnton roared the loudest as they won all three legs 20-17, 23-17, 24-20 to leave them both sharing the runners up spot. Steve Ward for Kidlington clanged off thirteen dolls 3-5-5 to no avail.
Vikings ‘A finished above The Chequers ‘A’ despite losing 2-1 in the scores of 20-18,18-17, 21-13.
Queens Head stopped a dismal four loss run when they beat The Chequers ‘B’ 2-1 at home. They set and won the opening leg 14-12 but lost the next 20-17. Final and deciding leg a set of 24 was more than enough to give them the leg and game when the Chequers could only hit 19 in reply.
Donnington club ‘A’ miserable season came to an end as it started losing to The Seacourt Bridge 3-0 and condemn them to the foot of the table. Seacourt won all three legs 22-10, 18-14, 16-8.

Section 3 was another tight finish and went down to the last leg. Blackbird ‘A’ clinched the title by a solitary point after they beat Red Lion Kidlington 2-1 and their closest rivals Masons Arms ‘A’ lost 2-1 at The Cricketers Littleworth. Nerves seemed to have got to The Blackbird when they could only set 12 in the first leg, with the Lion hitting 13 in reply. However, they composed themselves and chasing a set of 17 in the second leg they passed that with 20 to level the game. Blackbird completed the turnaround in the final leg 20-16 to give them that all important second point.
The Masons knew they had to at least match the Blackbirds score to force a play off at The Cricketers Littleworth, but they got of to a disastrous start losing both the opening legs 15-11, 20-17, they rallied in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 19-19 but by then it was too late.
The George ‘B’ ended propping up the table when they lost at The Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ 3-0 in the scores of 15-11, 14-8, 9-8.
The Catherine Wheel’s fine run at the end of the season was completed when they whitewashed visitors Vikings sports ‘B’ 3-0. They won the first two legs at a canter 20-14, 16-11 but had to rely on three sticks in the final leg after it was tied 12-12.

The Masons Arms ‘B’ share the runners up spot in Section 4 after a close 2-1 win at home to Six Bells ‘C’. They won the first leg on three sticks after it was tied 11-11, Bells levelled in the next leg 11-9. Masons threw well in the final leg winning it 17-15.
Section winners Blecthington Sports club signed off with a 3-0 win at home to Kidlington Sports club 11-10, 20-12, 15-12.

There will be a playoff in Section 5 after The Swan’ A’ who needed at least 2-1 win to the claim the title crashed at The White horse 2-1. It started of so well for The Swan winning the opening leg 18-12, however it went downhill from there as they lost the next two legs 17-9, 12-11 to leave them on 32 points with Littlemore Rugby club. Chris Cox was in fine form hitting a baker’s dozen (6-4-3) for The White Horse.
The White Hart Wolvercote completed the season without a win and only two points after their latest 3-0 loss against Cricketers Cowley. However, a word of appreciation for their determination on playing the season out. Even though they finished where they did, they turned up every week, gave it their best and played the game in a sporting fashion.
