The race for the Section One title was blown wide open this week when leaders The Blackbird ‘B’ lost 3-0 at The Swan ‘A’ and second place The George ‘A’ won 3-0 at The New Club for whom Kevin Stuart was in sensational form clanging off 17 dolls (5-6-6). Playing their last game of the season Blackbird lost all three legs 23-21, 19-17, 25-21. The George now need all three points in their final game to snatch the title from The Blackbird after they came away from the New club with maximum points. They set and won the opening leg 23-16, went two up in the second leg 22-18 and were then set 22 in the final leg. A slow reply from The George left anchor man Kevin Stuart needing all six to tie, and after already hitting a 5 & 6 in the first two legs Stuart did not disappoint and clanged off all six to send it to three sticks. George wrapped up the whitewash winning the three sticks shootout. Stuart missed with his fourth stick in his 17-doll haul.
Despite hitting the second most dolls in the league Gladiators remain rooted at the foot of the Premier table even after coming away from The Ampleforth ‘A’ with all three points. The Amp set all three legs which the Glad’s passed each time 22-24, 21-23, 12-22.
Premier champions Black Prince had a disastrous opening leg against Garsington Sports when they could only set 16, Garsington passing that with ease hitting 21. Second leg was much improved with both teams hitting 27, Black Prince winning a tight three stick shootout 12-11. Black Prince then won the final and deciding leg with an impressive 29-21. Barry Ruffles hit a baker’s dozen (4-5-4). for the sportsmen

In Section 2 Red Lion ‘B’ Kidlington title hopes took a blow when they lost at Vikings club ‘A’ 2-1. It started off well for the leaders when they won the first leg 21-18 ,however that was to be their only success as Vikings hit back in the next two legs, setting and winning them by the smallest of margins 17-16, 18-17.
Donnington Club ‘A’ stopped a dismal eight game running loss when they came from behind to beat Queens Head 2-1. Donnington lost the opener on three sticks after it was tied 16-16. A poor set of only 8 by The Queens let in Donnington to level with 15. Final leg went to Donnington 15-12 to give their players the first smell of victory since late June.
The two Chequers team clashed, and it was the B team that came out on top against their A team who set all three legs with 18. B team passed those with ease 21-24 and a striking 28 in the final leg.
Gladiators ‘B’ and Seacourt Bridge fought out a very close competitive game with both teams scoring 47 dolls apiece. Glad’s set and won the opening leg 21-19. Seacourt levelled in the second leg by the smallest of margins 14-13. Final and deciding leg went to Seacourt by the same score 14-13.

The Section 3 title will go down to the wire after joint leaders The Blackbird ‘A’ lost at Cowley Workers and Masons Arms ‘A’ won 2-1 at home to Donnington Club ‘B’. The Blackbird had a poor first two legs losing them both 16-10, 14-11. However, they rallied in the final leg to secure an important point 19-11.
Masons also got off to a poor start setting and losing the first leg 14-19 and it could have been even worse as the next two legs were tied 15-15, 12-12, with The Masons winning them both on three sticks. Paul Simms threw well for Donnington with 11 dolls (3-4-4).
A steady dozen dolls (4-4-4)from lead of man Steve Tooke guided The Catherine Wheel to a 2-1 win at Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington in the scores of 14-15, 19-21, 18-17.
The Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ are still propping up the table after losing at Vikings sports ‘B’ 2-1. It started of well for The Amp when they won the first leg on three sticks after it was tied 14-14, however it all went downhill from there losing the next two legs 17-6, 24-11.

Bletchington Sports are champions of Section 4 when they came away from Six Bells Quarry with a 2-1 win in the leg scores of 21-13, 11-12, 16-11.
Rose Hill had been in contention for most of the season but now are fighting for the runners up spot after they beat Six Bells ‘C’ on their own patch. Rose Hill lost the opener 14-18 but came back well to win the next two legs 18-12, 12-11.
Duke of Monmouth finally got a 3-0 win under their belts when they beat visitors The Tandem 3-0. In a tense close game, they won all three legs 12-10, 10-9, 9-7.
Kidlington FC beat local rivals Red Lion Yarnton when they whitewashed them 14-12, 11-9, 12-12 (on three sticks 6-3).
Terry Lester with a dozen dolls (4-5-3) led the Six Bells ‘B’ to a 2-1 home win against Masons Arms ‘B’ in the scores of 12-15, 16-14, 17-13.

The Section 5 title is going down the last game with Littlemore Rugby club holding a one-point lead over closest rivals The Swan ‘C’. However, Swan are slight favourites as the Rugby club have played all their games and The Swan have one left to play. They boosted their chances this week by beating Northway club ‘B’ 2-1. Duncan Merry threw well for the Swan with 11 dolls (3-4-4) as they won the first leg 14-9, lost the next 11-14 and won the deciding leg 20-8.
Littlemore Rugby club had a walkover against The White Hart Wolvercote after the tragic death of their player Felix Roper.
Some good steady throwing by The Golden Ball saw they take maximum points at home to The White Horse 13-10, 12-5, 13-9.
