REPORT WEEK 10
Mark Faulkner was in scintillating form has he bagged himself a six in his fourteen dolls haul (6-4-4) for Rose Hill in their home clash against Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton in Section 4. However, it was to no avail as they lost 2-1 after taking an early lead in the opening leg 21-12. Red Lion hit straight back in the second leg 24-15. Final and deciding leg was a close one, Rose Hill set with 15, and after a slow start the Lion’s tail wagged and they crept past it by the smallest of margins with 16. Arthur Bowers with a dozen dolls (3-5-4) roared the loudest for The Lion.
Bletchington Sports took full advantage of Rose Hills slip up and top the table after a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Duke of Monmouth. Paul Sawyer with a dozen dolls (5-4-3) led the was as they won all three legs 18-9, 19-9, 13-9.
Kidlington Sports club move in to second spot after coming away from Six Bells quarry with a 2-1 victory. With the game nicely poised at 1-1 the football club secured the win in the final leg 15-13.
The Tandem came away from The Masons Arms ‘B’ with a fine 2-1 win in a high scoring game. Joe Bandrowski clanged off a dozen dolls (4-3-5) for The Masons while Neale Clarkson hit elven dolls (4-3-4) for The Tandem in the leg scores of 18-12, 12-14, 20-17.
The two Six Bells teams clashed, and it was the C team who came out on top beating their B team 2-1 in a close contest, the leg scores being 15-16, 13-12,16-10.

In Section 2 Ian Sharp from The Seacourt Bridge was another top hitter smashing off fourteen dolls (4-5-5) as they had to come from behind to beat Six Bells ‘D’ at home. It started off well for title chasers the Bells when they set and won the first leg 18-13. Seacourt hit straight back in the second leg when chasing a set of 18 they hit 22 in reply to level the game. Final and deciding leg Seacourt set with an impressive 23 which proved to be enough as Bells could only respond with 13 to give Seacourt a deserved win.
It was incredibly close in the game between Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington and Queens Head, and despite Bells scoring more dolls than their visitors they still lost the game. The opening leg Queens set with 15 and with a slow reply from the Bell’s they left anchor man Stuart Wells needing four to tie and he did not disappoint whipping off the doll off with his last stick. However, Queens Head went on to claim the leg on one stick after three sticks was tied as well. Second leg went to Queens by the odd doll 22-21. The Bell’s rallied in the final leg taking a well-deserved point 24-21.Craig Disley was in top form for The Queens Head bagging himself a six in his dozen dolls (2-6-4).
Chequers ‘B’ climb up the table continues, and they slip into second place after beating Vikings sports ‘A’ 3-0. It was a fairly simple night as they won all three legs 19-15, 18-14, 24-17. James Bennett shone for the Vikings with a steady 4-4-4.
Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton had a disastrous start in their home game against Gladiators ‘B’ when they could only muster up a set of 9, which was never going to be enough as the Glad’s sailed past that with 16. However, they regrouped in the next two legs winning them both 22-17, 21-18 to complete the turnaround.
Donnington Club ‘A’ remain rooted at the foot of the table after being whitewashed at The Chequers ‘A’. Nevertheless, the leg scores were much closer than the game score suggests 19-16, 19-18, 22-19. Ian Preedie threw well for Donnington with a dozen dolls (3-5-4).

The Blackbird ‘B’ open up a six point league in Section One after they beat The George ‘A’ at home 2-1 in a close contest. Blackbird set and lost the first leg 17-21 but then set and won the second leg by the odd doll 18-17. Chasing a set of 15 the Blackbird’s anchor man Graham Hambridge whipped off the two dolls needed to snatch the leg by the odd doll again with 16.
The Black Prince still lead the Premier Section after beating a depleted New Club 3-0 in the leg scores of 30-15, 19-15, 23-14.
Gladiators ‘A’ keep their title hopes alive by defeating North Leigh FC at home 2-1 and in turn putting a dent in their title ambitions. North Leigh took an early lead in the opening leg setting and winning it 26-24. Gladiators hit back immediately with and impressive 32 -25 win. Final leg North Leigh could only muster up a set of 19 but in reply the Glad’s struggled and it was left to anchor man Kevin Baker to hit the winning dolls to give them a total of 21 to snatch the leg. Kevin Neal was in fine form for Gladiators with a dozen dolls (4-5-3).
A severely depleted Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ team was no match for visitors The Swan ‘A’ as they lost all three legs 16-28 , 16-23, 11-21.
Garsington Sports secured their second win of the season when they beat Donnington Club ‘C’ at home 3-0 in the leg scores of 16-11, 21-17, 20-13.

The Blackbird ‘A’ co lead top spot in Section 3 after they had a comfortable 3-0 win at The Cricketers Littleworth. but had a scare in the middle leg. Blackbird set and won the opening leg 21-14 and then were set only 10 in the next leg. A poor response left Blackbird’s anchor man Tom Finney needing two to win, and he was up for the challenge hitting the winning doll with a stick to spare. Blackbird then completed the whitewash in the final leg 19-16 in a game played in a good spirit.
The Masons ‘A’ share top spot but dropped a crucial point at The George ‘B’. Masons raced into a 2-0 lead with ease, 21-12, 18-14 however a set of only 14 in the final leg let The George in to grab a point in the final leg with a reply of 18.
Title contenders Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington got a shock when visitors Vikings Club ‘B’ who are propping up the table came away with an unexpected 2-1 win. It was a good team performance from Vikings who won the first leg 22-17, lost the next 16-18 but secured victory in the final leg 21-16.
Chris Williams was the star for Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ clanging off a dozen dolls (4-3-5) as they won the opening two legs 20-19, 22-16, before Donnington Club ‘B’ grabbed a point by the smallest of margins 17-16 in the last leg.
Cowley Workers charge up the table came to an abrupt halt when they lost at The Catherine Wheel 2-1 in the leg scores of 19-15, 13-15, 17-11.

Its still very tight in Section 5 with most teams still with a shout of the title. The Swan’ C’ lead by one point after they came away from The Golden Ball with a tense 2-1 win. With the game finely poised at 1-1 Golden Ball set 14 in the final leg. In reply Swan were in control of the leg but with their seventh man blobbing out it left anchor man Duncan Merry needing three to win and he ddi just that to give the Swan a vital extra point and win.
Hot on their tail are Littlemore rugby club who struggled at home to Cricketers Cowley. Chasing a set of only 9 Rugby Clubs anchor man needing two to win but blobbed out to give the Cricketers a surprising lead. The Rugby men levelled in the next leg 9-7 and then completed the turnaround in the final leg 12-6.
White Hart Wolvercote are still seeking their first win of the season after they lost 3-0 at home to Northway Club ‘C’ . White Hart are giving it their best shot and that first win will be within their grasp soon.
Northway Club ‘B’ had a fine 2-1 win at home to Red Lion Cassington in a high scoring game. Red Lion won the opening leg 14-12 but lost the next on three sticks after it was tied 10-10. A good set of 14 by Red Lion in the final leg was not enough as in return even starting of with a blob Northway hit 18 to win the leg and game.
