Week 8 Report
STUART & SONS OXFORD & DISTRICT AUNT SALLY 2022
REPORT WEEK 8
Kevin Stuart was in tremendous form as he hit fourteen dolls (5-5-4) however it was all in vain as The George ‘A’ lost at home to The Blackbird ‘B’ in the leg scores of 21-19, 23-20, 23-20.
It was a long night at North Leigh FC when they welcomed Gladiators ‘A’ as two legs went to three sticks. The Gladiators could only muster up a set of 20 in the opening leg with North Leigh passing that with ease hitting 27 in reply. Gladiators set again in the second leg with an improved 24 which North Leigh matched. North Leigh then set 14 in the three sticks which proved to be more than enough as Glad’s could only reply with 12. Final leg North Leigh set a mammoth 32 which normally would win you the leg, however Gladiators had other ideas and in reply hit twenty at the half was mark and ended up to level the leg with 32. North Leigh completed the whitewash setting and winning the three sticks 16-12. Andy Beal top scored for The Glad’s with a baker’s dozen (3-4-6).
The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ finally tasted the sweet smell of success when they defeated hosts The Swan ‘A’ 2-1. With the game nicely poised at 1-1 Ampleforth set and won the final leg by the smallest of margins 22-21. Liam Purcell was top dog for The Amp with 13 dolls 4-4-5.
Pete Rampton led the way with thirteen dolls (5-3-5) as SECTION 2 leaders Red Lion ‘B’ Kidlington grabbed maximum points from Seacourt Bridge winning all three legs 22-20, 19-17, 21,15.

After losing their first six games of the season Donnington Club ‘A’ have now won two on the bounce when they whitewashed Chequers ‘A’ 3-0, however the score line did no justice to how close the game was. Chequers set the first leg with 17 and in a reply a mixed response of scores left anchor man Steve Walton needing five to win. He nearly pulled it off by hitting four which tied the leg and sent it to three sticks which Donnington won. Second leg Donnington set with 18 and this time it was Chequers anchor man Dave Green that was left five to win, however the result was the same as the first as he whipped off four dolls to tie the leg. Three sticks could not separate them and onto a one stick shoot out that Donnington won with a set of 4. Final and deciding leg Donnington set and won 20-18.
Vikings ‘A’ threw well to beat visitors Chequers ‘B’ 2-1 in the leg scores of 24-20, 18-23, 22-17.
SECTION 3 leaders The Blackbird ‘A’ crashed to a 2-1 defeat at home to Cricketers Littleworth. A set of 12 in the opening leg by the league leaders was no where near enough as Cricketers passed that with ease hitting 16 in reply. A set of 17 by The Blackbird was more than enough to level the game as Cricketers could only reply with a disappointing 7. Final and deciding leg Cricketers won on three sticks after it was tied 13-13.
Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington kept their title ambitions on track when they beat basement boys Vikings ‘B’ 2-1. They won the first two legs 16-12, 17-16 but failed to complete the maximum win when they crashed in the final leg. Chasing a set of 17 they only needed four from their last two players to win the leg but they both blobbed out to give Vikings an unexpected point.
Masons Arms ‘A’ beat visitors George ‘B’ 3-0 however the game was much tighter than the score suggests. With Pete Kennett hitting his second 10 of the season (5-1-4) The Masons won all three legs 15-12, 17-15, 15-14.
There was a shock in SECTION 4 when Six Bells Quarry won only their second game of the season against league pacesetters Kidlington FC 3-0. The Bells hit their best score of the season winning all three legs 18-11, 16-12, 19-13. Stuart Bell top scored for the Bells with 10 dolls (4-4-2).
Second place Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton couldn’t take maximum advantage and close the gap at the top when they lost at home to Rose Hill Club 2-1. The club men raced to a 2-0 lead in the first two legs 12-11, 16-14, before Lion grabbed a consolation point in the final leg 15-10.
Bletchingdon Sports continue their climb up the table when they came away from The Duke of Monmouth with a 2-1 victory in the leg scores of 13-11, 12-16, 16-10.
The clash between the two Six Bells Kidlington team’s ‘B’ & ‘C’ did not quite live up to its expectations. It was all over in the first two legs that the B team won 14-9, 16-10. Final leg was more exciting when the B team set 14 and in the chase, C teams anchor man Nick Edmonds was left 4 to win and he did not disappoint whipping off the winning doll with his last stick to give the C team a point.
The Tandem got off to the perfect start at home to Masons ‘B’ setting and winning the first leg at a canter 19-9, however that was to be their only success as Masons hit back in the next two legs 17-16, 16-8. Chris Jilbert for the Masons bagged himself a six in his 10 doll haul. (2-6-2).
In SECTION 5 early pacesetters The Swan ‘C’ who won their first five games are on a bit of a downward spiral losing their second game on the bounce this time to The Golden Ball. A six from Duncan Merry helped the Swan win the first leg 19-16, but a good team performance from The Golden Ball saw them hit straight back to win the next two legs 14-11, 16-15. James Ormrod top scored for The Swan with 11 dolls (4-2-5).
