STUART & SONS OXFORD & DISTRICT AUNT SALLY 2022
REPORT WEEK 6
Chris Webb was in sensational form again when he clanged off fifteen dolls (4-6-5) for the second time this season for The Chequers ‘B’ in their 2-1 win at Seacourt Bridge in Section 2. Chequers won the first two legs 18-17, 18-13 before Seacourt Bridge prevented the whitewash in the final leg 22-14.
Donnington Social Club ‘A’ are still searching for their first win of the season after falling to their sixth defeat, this time at the hands of Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington 2-1. Alan Surman for the Bells led the way with a baker’s dozen (6-4-3) as they won the first leg 18-13, lost the second on three sticks after it was tied 16-16 and claimed victory in the final leg 17-9.
Nigel King (4-6-3) and Mark Poulter (3-5-5) inspired Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton to a 2-1 home win against Vikings ‘A’. Winning two legs 19-13, 23-18 they failed to claim the maximum win when Vikings won the middle leg on three sticks after it was tied 22-22. Mick Holton threw well for Vikings with thirteen dolls (5-6-2).

In the Premier/Section One clash between Gladiators ‘A’ and Donnington Club ‘C’, Scott Thompson for the Glad’s shone as he hit a baker’s dozen (2-5-6) to inspire them to a 3-0 home win in the leg scores of 25-21, 30-24, 23-22.
Trevor Greenaway hit a season best score of thirteen dolls (3-5-5) for Garsington Sports who were looking for their first win of the season, but it was to no avail as they lost out to a determined George ‘A’ team 2-1 in the leg scores of 16-17,19-22,19-18.
Premier leaders Black Prince dropped a point at home to the Blackbird ‘B’. They won two of the legs at a canter 30-24, 31-22 but crumpled in the middle leg 18-25. Johnny McMahon starred for the Blackbird with a dozen dolls as well as bagging himself a six in the process (3-6-3).
The Swan ‘A’ started off in spectacular fashion clanging off 33 dolls in opening leg at North Leigh FC who responded with a credible 27. However that was to be the Swan’s only success as North Leigh hit back in the next two legs 26-23, 20-16 to grab the win. Mark Rollins was top dog for the football club with thirteen dolls (6-3-4) with team mate Charlie Buckingham also bagging himself a six in his dozen dolls.

The top two clashed in Section 3 and despite scoring more dolls than their hosts, the Masons Arms ‘A’ lost out to The Blackbird ‘A’ 2-1. Masons took an early lead easily winning the opening leg 20-12. Blackbird hit back immediately to level in the next leg 20-16. Masons set 17 in the final and deciding leg and after a slow start in reply Blackbird sneaked it by the odd doll with 18.
Steve Tooke shone for the Catherine Wheel with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) as they had to come from behind to beat visitors Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ 2-1. Chasing a set of 15 in the first leg they got off to the worse possible start when their opening man blobbed out, however they recovered well to win the leg by two dolls with 17. Amp then set 14 in the second leg and looked on course to go two up until The Wheels anchor man Michael Ashburner whipped off the three dolls needed to snatch the leg by the smallest of margins with 15. Catherine Wheel set and won the third leg at a canter 22-17.

In Section 4 it was a high scoring game between Bletchingdon Sports and Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton, 99 dolls scored between them, it was Red Lion who came out on top 2-1. The opening leg went to the Sportsmen being decided on three sticks after it was tied 18-18. Red Lion reacted well to take the next two legs 19-12, 17-15.
Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington had a disastrous opening leg at The Tandem. Chasing a set of 16 they could only reply with a measly score of 4 with five players blobbing out. Somehow they managed to stop the rot immediately and recovered to turn things around and won the next two legs 12-9, 13-12.
After winning their first game of the season Duke Of Monmouth have now lost their following five games, this time to the hands of Masons Arms ‘B’. It started off well for The Duke winning the first leg by the tightest of margins 13-12. Chasing the next two legs of 15 & 14 they fell short replying with 13 & 11 to give the Masons their first win in three weeks.

In their pursuit of the Section 5 title Kidlington FC dropped a point against Six Bells ‘B’ who are propping up the table. Winning the first two legs 13-12, 20-12 they failed to grab maximum points in the final leg losing it 12-10.
