REPORT WEEK 5

Josh Breakspear was in top form when he clanged off thirteen dolls (5-4-4) and help Donnington Club ‘C’ to a 2-1 win at home to The New Club in Section One. Chasing all three legs Donnington won the opener 21-17, lost the next 16-23 then won the decider 22-18. Ady Shepherd for The New Club also hit a baker’s dozen (3-5-5).
Black Prince continue their defence of the Premier title with their fifth victory on the bounce, this time at home to Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ 3-0. A good team performance saw them comfortably win all three legs 27-17, 22-18, 29-23.
Gladiators ‘A’ started off with a bang in their opening leg at home to Garsington Sports setting and winning the first leg 27-20, however they struggled from then on. Garsington levelled in the next leg 25-23 and then Gladiators could only set a beatable 22 in the deciding leg but in reply Garsington struggled and ended up four short with 18 to hand The Glad’s an unexpected win.
Spencer Buckingham bagged himself a six in his twelve-doll haul for North Leigh FC in their 3-0 win at home to The Blackbird ‘B’. It was a straightforward night for North Leigh winning the first two legs 20-17, 26-19 and completing the whitewash in the final leg 24-20.
Playing with a man short The Swan ‘A’ done well to come away from the George ‘A’ with a 2-1 victory. George took an early lead in the first leg 25-17 but that turned out to be their only success as The Swan hit back in the next two legs 22-19, 22-20 to give them an unlikely triumph.

There is a three way tie at the top of Section 2 and Six Bells ‘D’ boosted their chances with a 3-0 win at home to Gladiators ‘B’ 17-12, 22-17, 19-17.
Six Bells ‘A’ dropped a point at home to Chequers ‘A’. Coming out on top in two of the legs 22-18, 20-16, they failed to claim a maximum win losing the middle leg 20-16.
Queens Head make up the trio at the top and struggled in their opening leg at home to Seacourt Bridge, winning it by the smallest of margins 18-17. Their throwing improved in the next two legs winning them both 20-16, 24-20 to complete the whitewash. Rory Mangan top scored for Queens with 11 dolls (3-3-5).
Chequers ‘B’ lose ground after being whitewashed at home to Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton. In a high scoring game where Lion’s anchor man Mark Poulter was their hero. Chequers set 19 in the first leg and in reply Poulter needing three to win did just that to sneak the leg with 20. A comfortable second leg 22-14 put the Lion two up and in the final leg Chequers set an impressive 25. A good start by the Lion in reply left Poulter needing four to win and once again he did not disappoint clanging off the winning doll with his final stick to snatch the leg by the odd doll with 26.

Masons Arms ‘A take a slender leader in Section 3 after a tight exciting 2-1 win away at Ampleforth Arms ‘B’. The opening leg was tied 11-11 with the Masons winning it on three sticks. They then set and won the second leg by the smallest of margins 13-12. Ampleforth Arms earnt a well deserved point in the final leg 13-11.
Tom Finney was in excellent form for The Blackbird ‘A’ clanging off thirteen dolls including a six (3-6-4) as they claimed a maximum win at home to Donnington Club ‘B’ in the leg scores of 15-13, 22-16, 18-14.
Vikings Sports ‘B’ remain rooted at the bottom of the table after suffering a 3-0 loss at Cowley Workers ‘B’. The opening leg was tied 11-11 which Cowley Workers won on three sticks, then went on to win the next two legs 19-10, 17-10.

Duke Of Monmouth are finding it hard in Section 4 after suffering their fourth loss on the bounce. They struggled all night losing all three legs to leaders Kidlington FC 17-6, 13-7, 11-9.
Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton were on course for a maximum win at home to Six Bells ‘C’ after winning the first two legs 15-10, 16-10, however they collapsed in the final leg losing it 9-13.
Masons Arms ‘B’ started off in style in their home clash against Bletchingdon Sports winning it 19-11, however that was to be their only success as they lost the next leg 18-9 and the deciding leg by the odd doll 13-12.
The clash of the Bells Six Bells’ Quarry and Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington was a ding dong of a match. Kidlington won the opening leg 17-15 and then was set 14 in the second leg. A poor response by Kidlington left anchor man Henry Clarke needing five to win. An early miss put pressure on Clarke but he responded to hit the five needed to snatch the leg with 15 and go two up. Bells Quarry won a well earned point in the final leg 15-10.

The Swan ‘C’ remain unbeaten in Section 5 and a team effort was needed to see them over the line at The Red Lion Cassington. With the scores level 8-12, 16-13 Swan set a formidable 21 in the final leg. A good start by Lion in reply evaporated in the middle and they fell short with 14.
White Hart Wolvercote are finding it tough at the moment, but they are striving for a win and it will come sooner then later and they almost took a leg at The White Horse in the scores of 13-5, 9-6, 13-4.
Littlemore Rugby Club are enjoying their return to the league with some good scoring as they won all three legs at home to Golden Ball 11-9, 19-8, 15-10. James Crawford top scoring with nine dolls.
