Week 7
On a wet and windy night, Pete Coates (5-5-4) and Dave Townsend (6-5-3) did not let it affect them as they clanged off fourteen dolls each to lead The Three Pigeons to a 3-0 win at home to The Black Prince. They set and won the opening leg at a canter 30-25. In the second leg they were chasing a set of 24 and only just scrapped past it by the odd doll with 25. Black Prince could only set 19 in the final leg which the Pigeons went pass with ease in a reply of 24.
Dave Townsend bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul for The Pigeons.
The Woodman are still top of Section One after a powerful display as they whitewashed Garsington Sports Club ‘A’ on their own patch. Even allowing for the two doll handicap they receive they won all three legs 29-25, 28-25, 33-24. Ray Grant hit a baker’s dozen (4-4-5) for The Woodman as did Darren Cox (5-3-5) and Martin Ruffels (5-5-3) for Garsington Sports.
The George ‘A’ finally got a win under their belts as they beat The New Club ‘A’ at home 22-21, 25-23, 23-25.
Premier leaders Gladiators ‘A’ had a fright at Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton as they scrapped to a 2-1 win. The Glad’s set and won the opening leg 24-21 with Andy Beal and Keith Weller getting half their score with a six a piece. Red Lion levelled in the second leg 26-20. Glad’s won the toss in the final leg and put themselves in to set, but all they could manage was 19, however it turned out to be enough as Red Lion fell three short in the chase and ended up with 16.
The Swan ‘B’ defeated their ‘A’ team who struggled all night. The ‘B’ team raced in to an early lead winning the first two legs 29-21, 24-22. They then set 22 in the final leg and after a steady reply the ‘A’ team still needed eight to win from their last two players. Terry Stuart whipped off five dolls leaving anchor man Keith Powell to clang off the three dolls needed to win the leg by the smallest of margins.
In Section 2 The Six Bells ‘E’ Kidlington remain only one of three teams unbeaten in the league after they came away from The Gladiators ‘B’ with a 2-1 win in the leg scores of 13-19, 15-20, 22-20.
The Chequers ‘C’ move to level top with The Bells after they collected all three points at home to The Bullnose Morris ‘A’. It was fairly comfortable for them as they won all three legs 20-14, 24-19, 21-19.
John Brown was in top form for The Black Horse ‘C’ hitting thirteen dolls (5-4-4) in their 2-1 win at The Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry. They won the opening leg 25-18 but lost the second leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15. The final and deciding leg was close as the Black Horse won it by a single doll 20-19.
Donnington Club ‘A’ moved off the foot of the table as they defeated The Crown at home 3-0. They set and won the first leg 22-21 and then went on to comfortably win the next two 22-15, 20-16.
Stuart Bishop clanged off a six in his dozen dolls for The Chequers ‘A’ as they took maximum points at home to The Queens Head in Section 3. It was a straightforward win for the Chequers winning all three legs 20-13, 19-9, 18-16.
White House scored more dolls than their hosts The New Club ‘B’ (57-53) but still lost out 2-1. The Club men set and won the first leg 19-17 but White House came back well to level in the next leg 23-12. New Club claimed victory in the final leg 22-17.
Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington still prop up the table after they crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Vikings Club ‘B’ in the leg scores of 14-11, 14-10, 17-9.
Brian Reidy hit an impressive fourteen dolls (5-4-5) but it was all in vain as they lost to The King & Queen 2-1. With the game nicely poised at a leg each Blackbird set 17 in the final leg, but it was not quite enough as King & Queen hit 18 in reply to snatch the leg and game. Simon Jones was top dog for The King & Queen (4-5-4) and tops the doll chart.
Section 4 leaders Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington lost their first game of the season falling at home to The George ‘B’ 2-1. It started off well for the leaders winning the first leg 19-16 but The George levelled in the next leg 21-13. George set in the deciding leg with 18 and in reply The Bells fell agoniseinly short by one doll with 17.
Green Road Club ‘B’ thought they were on for their second win of the season when they went one nil up at home to Rose Hill Club 19-13. However they could only set 12 in the next leg which Rose Hill passed with 14 and then Rose Hill set thirteen in the final leg. It proved not to be unlucky as Green Road club fell one short with 12.
Donnington Club ‘C’ made it five consecutive wins as they beat The Swan ‘C’ 2-1 in the leg scores of 15-18, 17-10, 17-9.

In Section 6 Black Horse could only set a dismal score of 5 in their home game against Six Bells ‘B’ Quarry. Needless to say The Bells sailed past that with 15. Black Horse doubled their score in the next leg with 10 but again a reply of 15 from The Bells was enough to see them through. It was closer in the final leg with The Bells wrapping up victory 14-13.
Graham Williams hit a six for Green Road Club ‘B’ in his ten dolls (6-2-2) in the opening leg against Florence Park Club which saw them take an early lead 16-14. That was to be their only success as Florence Park came back well to win the next two legs 19-14, 16-13.
Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton continue their rule at the top of Section 7 after beating Northway Club ‘C’ 2-1 and remain unbeaten. They won the first two legs by two dolls 10-8, 12-10 but Northway stopped the whitewash winning the last leg 16-15.
