Week 3

Games played Wednesday 10th May

Phil Jackson was in superb form clanging off sixteen dolls (6-5-5) for Garsington Sports Club ‘B’ as they demolished The White House 3-0 at home in Section 3. They won the opening leg 17-13 but scrapped through the next two legs by the odd doll 23-22, 20-19.
Brian Reidy hit thirteen dolls (4-4-5) for The Blackbird, but it proved to be unlucky as they lost out 2-1 at home to The Chequers ‘A’. With the game tied at 1-1 The Chequers won the final and deciding leg on three sticks after it was tied 20-20.
Tiddington Cricket Club scored more dolls then their visitors Six Bells A Kidlington (41-37) but somehow still managed to lose the game 2-1. The Bells won the first two legs by the smallest of margins 12-11, 12-11 with Tiddington recovering well in the final leg to grab a point 19-13.
Simon Jones bagged himself a six in his fourteen doll haul for The King & Queen in their 3-0 win at Vikings Club B. It was a fairly comfortable win as they won the first two legs 18-16, 19-16 and then wrapped up maximum points in the final leg 21-17.

In the Premier/ Section One Black Prince beat title contenders Gladiators ‘A’ 2-1 in a game that produced four sixes. The Glad’s set and won the opening leg 28-24. In the second leg Black Prince (carrying a three doll start) set a whopping 37 including three sixes which saw them draw level as the Glad’s fell ten dolls short in reply with 27. Black Prince then went on to win the final leg 26-22.
Eddie Edwards whipped off a baker’s dozen (4-4-5) for The Three Pigeons but it was all in vain as they crashed at home to The New Club A 2-1. Pip Goulding led the way for The New Club also with thirteen dolls 2-6-5 as they raced into an early lead winning the first two legs 24-21, 30-22 but couldn’t make it a maximum losing the last leg 23-21.

Six Bells ‘E’ Kidlington made it three wins out of three in Section 2 when they came from behind to beat hosts Six Bells A Quarry, who won the opening leg 25-23. Six Bells E set and won the next two legs 22-17, 25-16. Stuart Wells was top dog for the Kidlington Bells with thirteen dolls (5-5-3).
Only one doll separated The Crown and Chequers ‘C’ and it proved to be decisive as The Chequers ran out winners 2-1. Chequers won the opening leg 19-17 and secured the second leg on three sticks after it was tied 21-21. Crown got a deserved point in the final leg 20-19.

In Section 4 Masons Arms had a fruitful night at The Black Swan by whitewashing their hosts 3-0 in the leg scores of 18-19, 15-17, 14-14, last leg on three sticks.

In Section 5 Masons Arms ‘B’ and The Cricketers ‘A’ fought out an epic battle in the middle leg of their game. Cricketers had already won the first leg 20-15 when they set seventeen in the next leg. Masons anchor man Joe Bandrowski clanged off the four dolls needed to tie the leg. A three stick shoot out could not separate them and nor could a one stick throw off. So, back to six sticks which The Cricketers won 18-17. Cricketers then completed the whitewash in the final leg 16-14.
The Fox & Goat had one of those nights you want to forget and the ground to swallow you up at the time. With three of their players failing to trouble the doll all night it was no wonder they were thrashed 15-5, 16-8, 19-7 by hosts Vikings Sports ‘D’.

In Section 6 The Black Horse B lead off man Clive Walsh set them off with a good start whipping off thirteen dolls (3-5-5) as they came from behind to beat Donnington Club B on their own patch. It looked good for the club men when they won the opening leg 15-11 but Black Horse hit back well winning the next two legs 21-14, 19-15. Kevin Flynn threw well for Donnington with a dozen dolls (3-4-5).

A good team performance saw Catherine Wheel ‘B’ just get the better over visitors Kidlington Football Club in Section 7. They started off well taking the first leg 18-14, but the Club men responded well to level in the next leg by the odd doll 13-12. Catherine Wheel were set 14 in the final leg which they passed with ease hitting 18 again to give them a 2-1 victory.
