Last season’s Premier champions The Swan A made a disastrous start to the season crashing to a 3-0 home defeat against The Woodman. Neil Pratley led the way with a dozen dolls 5-4-3 as they comfortably won all three legs 24-19, 28-22, 28-22.
Gladiators scored the highest leg of the night in their 2-1 win at the George A. Kevin Giles led the way with a six in the opening leg which they won 26-22. George levelled in the next leg 25-24 but The Glad’s stormed the final leg 34-22. Giles top scored with thirteen dolls (6-3-4) while Kevin Stuart was top dog for The George also with thirteen dolls (4-4-5).
Clive Proudfoot hit a six in his opening throw for Garsington Sports Club A but it could not prevent them going down 2-1 at home to The Black Prince, who won the opening two legs 26-23, 26-21 with Garsington salvaging a point in the final leg 23-21.
New Club A got off to the perfect start winning all three legs at home to Red Lion Yarnton 29-25, 26-25, 23-21.
Pip Goulding for the New Club was in top form with a baker’s dozen (4-5-4).
The Three Pigeons returned to the league with a 2-1 home win over newly promoted The Swan B, but they had to do it the hard way coming from behind after The Swan won the opening leg 28-25 for whom Mark Revill clanged off a six. Three Pigeons responded well and won the next two legs 29-26, 26-22.
In Section 2 Kevin Masterson clanged off thirteen dolls (4-4-5) to lead The Vikings A to maximum points at The Gladiators B. They won the opening leg 22-19, and were set 22 in the next leg. Vikings anchor man Pete Kennett whipped off the four dolls needed to tie the leg which The Vikings won on three sticks. They then wrapped up victory in the final leg 27-18.
In Section 3 Graham Bristow was in excellent form as he hit fourteen dolls (5-5-4) for Tiddington Cricket Club in their 2-1 home win over The Blackbird in the leg scores of 17-12, 19-24, 17-13.
Six Bells A Kidlington scored more dolls than their visitors New Club B (54-52) but still ended up losing 2-1. The Bells won the first leg 20-14 but New Club came storming back to win the next two legs 20-18, 18-16 and with it the game.
Phil Jackson whipped off a six in his final throw as Garsington Sports Club B came away from The Chequers A with maximum points in a close contest. They won the first leg on three sticks after it was tied 17-17 and then completed the whitewash in the next two legs 22-20, 21-20.
Donnington Club C threw well in Section 4, hitting 72 dolls as they beat Rose Hill Club 3-0 in the leg scores of
26-9, 20-18, 26-22.
In Section 5 Fox & Goat and The Cricketers A hit the same number of dolls, but it was The Fox & Goat who were victorious. Richard Lee led the way with a dozen dolls (4-3-5) as they won the first two legs 17-15, 18-16 with Cricketers taking the final leg 16-12.
Don Quarterman was in top form for The Red Lion Old Marston with twelve dolls (3-5-4) as they came from behind to beat hosts Vikings Sports D. The opening leg Vikings won by the odd doll 13-12 with Red Lion doing the same in the second leg 17-16. The final and deciding leg Lion set and won 18-16.
Mick Griffin was top dog for Catherine Wheel A in Section 7 with a dozen dolls (4-5-3) as they beat visitors Prince of Wales 2-1 in the leg scores of 14-17, 16-14, 12-9.
In Section 8 it was a long night between Gladiators C and Democrats Club B as the first two legs were ties. The opening Gladiators set 9 with The Demo’s matching it and winning the leg on one stick. Next leg was tied 8-8 and The Democrats again winning it this time on three sticks. The Glad’s grabbed a point in the final leg 10-9.
