Games played Wednesday 13th July
The Swan A opened up a two point lead at the top of the Premier Section with an impressive 3-0 win at The George A in a high scoring game. The Swan set the opening leg with 30. In reply George fell agonisingly short by one doll with 29 despite a maximum six form Steve Bayliss. The George set the next leg with 28, which pushed The Swan but they responded in style with 32 to go two up. The final leg George set 22 which The Swan passed with ease hitting 27. Top doll scorer Jon Townsend hit fourteen dolls (5-5-4) for The Swan while Steve Bayliss was on form for The George with thirteen dolls (6-3-4).
The Gladiators A dropped a point at home to The Black Prince. The first leg Prince set with 24 and in reply The Glad’s were on target but faltered in the middle and fell one doll short with 23. The Glad’s reacted well in the next two legs winning them 28-25, 30-25. Kevin Giles was top dog for The Glad’s with fourteen dolls (3-6-5).
Once Premier favourites New Club A are falling off the pace after losing to Section One side Yarnton British Legion 2-1 and in turn boosted Yarnton’s chances in Section One. New Club could only muster up 22 in the opening leg however it nearly turned out to be enough as The Legion scrapped by with 23. Yarnton set the second leg with 26 and this time in reply New Club fell one short with 25. New Club saved a maximum defeat winning the last leg 25-23.
Garsington Sports Club A continue their climb up the table in Section One. After losing the last four games on the bounce they have turned it around and won their third game in a row this time away at The Woodman. Martin Cook led the way with a bakers dozen (6-2-5) as they won all three legs 29-25, 25-23, 26-22. Charlie Buckingham for The Woodman hit a six in his thirteen doll haul (3-6-4).
The Bullnose A still top Section One after they had a comfortable 3-0 win at home against The Six Bells A Quarry. Steve Tooke was in fine form with thirteen dolls (5-3-5) for The Bullnose as they won all three legs 21-14, 26-11, 24-18.
Section 2 leaders The Swan B lost their second game of the season at home to North Oxford Con Club B. The club men took the opening leg 24-23 with The Swan levelling in the next leg 23-18. The all important final leg went to The Con Club 22-18. Paul Smith threw well for his thirteen dolls (5-3-5) for North Oxford.
The Crown Chalgrove boosted their title ambitions with a 3-0 win over title contenders The Six Bells D. Don Armstrong smashed off a six in the opening leg for The Crown which they set and won 25-17. The second leg was tied 18-18 with The Crown winning it on three sticks. The Crown then wrapped up a well deserved maximum win in the final leg 28-18.
The New Club B remain rooted at the foot of the table after coming away from The Queens Head empty handed. The score line don’t do The New Club justice as they could have easily come away with a victory. Queens set and won the first leg 22-17, but had to rely on a three stick shoot out to win the second leg after it was tied 20-20. The last leg Queens won by the shortest of margins 19-18.
Steve Walton was in top form for Donnington Club D as he clanged off thirteen dolls (5-3-5) in their 2-1 win at home to Red Lion Kidlington. Donnington won the first two legs 17-15, 17-11 and the last leg went to three sticks in Red Lion’s favour after it was tied 20-20.
Section 3 leaders The Chequers A had a lucky escape at home to The George B in which only one doll separated the two teams overall. The George won the first leg 14-13 with The Chequers levelling in the second leg 16-14. Chequers finally secured victory in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 18-18.
Darren Cox threw well for Florence Park A with thirteen dolls (5-4-4) as they defeated King & Queen 3-0 in the leg scores of 15-14, 23-14, 14-12.
Its still very tight in Section 4 with only four points separating the top seven. Donnington Club A lead by a point after they had an easy 3-0 at home to The Masons B. Phil Simpson with a dozen dolls (5-4-3) top scored in the leg scores of 22-12, 24-13, 22-15.
Garsington Sports Club B threw to their average and it paid off as they beat The Cricketers Cowley 3-0. They set and won the first two legs 15-10, 16-11 and wrapped up maximum points in the final leg 16-12.
Despite James Dineen hitting his first ever six The Blackbird lost at The Three Horseshoes 2-1. Blackbird set the first leg with 15 but it was not enough as The Shoes raced past that with 20. The Horseshoes went two up in the next leg 15-14 with The Blackbird getting a deserved point in the final leg 18-14. Dineen ending up with a thirteen doll haul (4-3-6).
Berkshire House shot themselves in the foot in the opening leg at home to Littlemore British Legion. Chasing a set of 14 they only need two from their last two players to win the leg, but they both blobbed out to give the Legion an unexpected first leg win. Berkshire drew level in the next leg 11-10. The Legion secured victory in the final leg 23-17.
Holding everyone up at the bottom Green Road Club B shocked Red Lion A Marston with a 2-1 win. They had to do it the hard was after losing the first leg 19-23. Green Road levelled in the next leg 17-16 and then were set 15 in the final leg. After a steady reply anchor man Simon Hopkins hit four dolls to tie the leg to send it to three sticks in which Green Road won..
Red Lion B Marston move off the foot of the Section 5 table for the first time this season after a 3-0 home win against Donnington Club C. Nick Edmonds Snr led the way with a dozen dolls (3-5-3) as they won the first two legs 18-14, 19-14 and the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15.
North Oxford Con Club A are finding life hard after falling to their eight consecutive defeat, this time at home to a seven man Democrats Club A team. Stuart Waite top scored for The Democrats with twelve dolls (4-4-4) as they won all three legs 13-10, 14-11, 20-10.
Section 6 leaders Vikings Sports D had to fight every inch of the way to overcome a determined Rose Hill Club B, eventually winning 2-1. Rose Hill took an early lead winning the first leg 14-13. The second leg was tied 15-15 with Vikings snatching it on three sticks to level the game. The deciding leg was also tied 16-16 with Vikings winning it on three sticks to give them a hard fought victory.
The Pheasant Inn had their title ambitions dented when they lost 2-1 at The White Hart Wolvercote.The damage was done in the first two legs which The White Hart won 19-15, 16-9. Pheasant avoided the whitewash in the final leg 14-13.
In a very tight Section 7 where six points separate eight teams, Original Swan A have dragged themselves back in the hunt for the title. After losing their last four games they came back to claim maximum points at home to Donnington Club B. They just won the first two legs by the odd doll 15-14, 10-9 and then had it a bit more easier in the final leg 16-12.
Bullnose Morris B almost came unstuck against basement boys Marston British Legion. After winning the opener by five dolls 14-9 they scampered over the line by one doll in the next two legs 16-15, 14-13. Eddie Lacey starred for The Bullnose with eleven dolls (3-4-4).
In Section 8 the only team in the league without a win, White Hart Wytham, finally got a win under their belt when they defeated Northway Club C at home. They started off well winning the first leg 13-12 but lost the next 19-10. White Hart set 14 in the final leg and it was enough to secure them the leg and their first win when Northway could only reply with 8.
Kidlington Football Clubs title ambitions took a nose dive when they lost at The Cricketers Littleworth 2-1. Cricketers were on fire the first two legs hitting two 18’s to Killington’s 12 & 11. Cricketers couldn’t quite make it a maximum win in the final leg when they set 14. In reply Kidlington’s anchor man Daryl Connelly whipped off the four dolls needed to snatch the leg by a doll with 15.
