Week 10

Games played Wednesday 6th July
The top two teams in the Premier Section both lost out to Section One teams to blow open both the Premier & Section One title hopes of all teams. Leaders The Swan A came unstuck at home to The Black Prince 2-1. Rob Bradford got The Prince off to the perfect start in the opening leg by whipping off a six in their thirty doll haul. In reply Swan fell five short with twenty five. Swan set twenty two in the next leg, however that was no where near enough as The Prince sailed past with twenty seven. The Swan avoided the whitewash in the final leg 30-26.
Dick Walsh with thirteen dolls (4-5-4) top scored for The Swan while Darren Grant did likewise for The Prince (3-5-5).
Garsington Sports Club A hit their best score of the season as they came from behind to beat The Gladiators A at home. The Sports men set 26 in the first leg but it was not match for The Gladiators who hit 32 in reply. Garsington levelled in the next leg chasing a set of 26 they went pass that with a reply of 30. The final and deciding leg Garsington won the toss and chose to set and it turned out to be a good choice as they won the leg 32-26. Barry Ruffels with fourteen dolls (5-4-5) and Steve Greenough with thirteen dolls (3-5-5) were top dogs for Garsington, while Barry Townsend, fourteen dolls (5-4-5) and Kevin Giles thirteen dolls (3-6-4) threw well for The Gladiators.
Six Bells A Quarry almost gained their second win of the season as they lost to The New Club A 2-1 in a close game. New Club set and won the opener 27-25 and were then set 24 by The Six Bells. New Club matched that which sent the leg into three sticks which The New Club won. won . Six Bells set the deciding leg with 22 which proved to be just enough as New Club fell one doll short in reply with 21. Roger Goodall top scored for The New Club with thirteen (4-5-4).
Bullnose Morris ‘A’ remain top of Section 1 after beating their closest rivals Yarnton British Legion. They won the first two legs 22-19, 22-21 but failed to secure all three points when Yarnton responded well in the final leg taking it 24-17.
The Woodman dented The George A title ambitions beating them on their own turf 2-1. It started well for The George setting and winning the opener 28-26 but a set of 29 in the second leg was enough for The Woodman to draw level after The George replied with 21. The deciding leg George set with 20 but it was not enough as Woodman hit 23 to secure the leg and win. Jeff Glenister and Neil Pratley (5-4-4) both hit a bakers dozen for The Woodman.
Mark Hewitson hit fourteen dolls (5-6-3) for Section 2 leaders The Swan B as they came away from The Gladiators B with maximum points in the leg scores of 26-20, 25-21, 24-16.
Six Bells D Kidlington are still hot on their tail but had a shock in the opening leg at home to Donnington Club D who won the first leg 19-18. Six Bells levelled in the next leg 21-19 and then wrapped up a fine comeback in the final leg 22-17. Steve Ward for the Bells threw well for his thirteen dolls (3-5-5).

The top two clashed in Section 3 and it was leaders The Chequers A who came out on top 2-1. Vikings Sports B dealt the first blow winning the first leg 19-17 and in a low scoring second leg Chequers levelled 12-11. Chequers then easily won the decider 22-11 to open a five point gap at the top of the table.
John Cleaton starred for The King & Queen with thirteen dolls (5-3-5) to help them to a 2-1 home win against Tiddington Cricket Club. The first leg was tied 18-18 with King & Queen winning it on three sticks. The Cricket club set and won the next leg by the odd doll 17-16. Cricket club set the final leg with 16 but it was never going to be enough as King & Queen flew past that with ease with a reply of 23.

It’s still vey tight in Section 4 with seven teams still in with a good chance of claiming the title. The Blackbird still rule the roost after beating The Masons Arms B 2-1. They won the first two legs 19-17, 21-14 but failed to claim maximum points losing the final leg by the smallest of margins 16-17. Joe Bandrowski threw well for The Masons with a dozen dolls (3-4-5).
Donnington Social Club A move level second with Red Lion A Marston after beating them 2-1 in the leg scores of 19-14, 17-20, 19-16.
Garsington Sports B boosted their chances with a 3-0 win at Littlemore British Legion. They won all three legs 23-18, 16-15, 21-17.

Monty Morgan was on fire as he clanged off thirteen dolls (6-5-2) to lead Rose Hill Club B to a 2-1 home win over Six Bells B in Section 5. Rose Hill won the first two legs 15-13, 23-13 but lost the last leg 19-21.
Paul Edwards hit his highest total for many years (5-1-5) as Red Lion Yarnton roared the loudest against Red Lion Marston. They won the opening leg 18-12 and was set thirteen in the next leg. In reply Yarnton’s anchor man Ron Squires was left needing four to win and he was up to the challenge as he clanged off the four needed to win the leg. The final leg was tied 15-15 but Yarnton won it on three sticks to give them maximum points.

Section 6 leaders Vikings Sports D almost came unstuck at home to White Hart A. Chasing a set of 16 in the first leg Vikings fell well short with twelve. White Hart set again in the second leg with fourteen but Vikings rose to the challenge and passed it with ease hitting eighteen. The final leg White Hart set once again with fourteen and it was left to Vikings anchor man Glyn Millard to whip off the three dolls needed to win the leg and match with fifteen.
Pheasant Inn remain second after a maximum win at home to Rose Hill Club B. They won the first leg 19-16 but had to rely on three sticks in the next leg after it was tied 18-18. They then wrapped up victory in the final leg 15-13.
Section 7 pacesetters Northway Club A had a fortunate win at home to Green Road Club B. They set and won the opening leg 16-14 and then was only set seven in the next leg which should have been a formality. However they had to rely on their anchor man Grant Madden to hit the winning dolls to win the leg by two dolls. The final leg Green Road club set and won 18-12.
Anchor man Dean Plumstead came to Florence Park B rescue in all three legs against The Original Swan A. Swan set each leg and in the opener they hit eighteen. After a slow reply Florence Park left Plumstead five to win and he did not disappoint as he clanged off the five needed with the winning one coming from his last stick. The second leg Swan set ten and this time Plumstead hit three to send it to a three stick shoot out, but the Swan won that to level the score. The deciding leg Swan set twelve and this time Plumstead only needed two to win which he duly obliged.

Section 8 top dogs Black Horse crashed to a heavy defeat at The Golden Ball B who won the first leg 17-15. The next leg was a lot closer 14-13 and the final leg was tied 11-11. Golden Ball made sure of maximum points winning it on three sticks. Despite this defeat Black Horse still top the table.
Kidlington Football Club took full advantage and move within two points after they had a comfortable 3-0 win at home to The Catherine Wheel, 17-10, 11-9, 14-12.

In Section 9 Bletchingdon Sports Club fell to only their second defeat of the season after The Kings Arms came away with a well deserved 2-1 win. Kings Arms won the first leg on three sticks after it was tied 13-13 with the Sportsmen levelling in the next leg 16-12. Kings Arms claiming victory in the final leg 15-10.
