Games played Wednesday 29th June

At the half way stage of the season and one of the wettest and windiest nights of the season, Pete Rampton for Section 2 leaders The Six Bells D Kidlington shone through with fourteen dolls (4-6-4) but it was all in vain as they lost at home to The Crown 2-1 in a close game and boosted The Crown’s title ambitions. Crown set the opening leg with 22 and in reply Six Bells left anchor man Steve Ward all six to tie. He almost succeeded but fell one short with five. Crown set and won the second leg 20-18. Six Bells finally getting a point in the final leg by the odd doll 22-21.
Joint leaders The Swan B dropped a point away at North Oxford Con Club B. They breezed through the opening leg 17-11 and were then set nineteen in the next leg which proved to be enough as they fell one short in reply with 18. Swan winning the final and deciding leg 17-13.
Craig Disley clanged off fourteen dolls (5-4-5) as they came from behind to beat New Club B 2-1 in the leg scores of 16-19, 23-14, 14-10.

The Swan A opened up a one point lead in the Premiership after a maximum win at home over The George A. Steady throwing form The Swan 25-18, 24-21, 25-18 saw them through.
The Gladiators A dropped a point at The Black Prince where some top class sticking up was on show that would have put the England Cricket team slips to shame! The opening leg set by Black Prince saw lead off man Rob Bradford get them off to the perfect start by whipping off a six in their 25 total. In reply The Glad’s fell one doll short with 24. The next leg Gladiators set with 20 and this time The Black Prince fell doll short with 19. Final and deciding leg Prince set with 23 which was not quite enough as Glad’s went past with 25 to secure the leg and game. Bradford top scored with thirteen dolls (6-3-4).Yarnton British Legion remain joint top of Section One after defeating Premier New Club A 2-1. New Club set and won the opening leg 26-25. Yarnton responded quickly in the next leg to level 30-20. The deciding leg Yarnton set with 26 which proved to be just enough as New Club fell one short with 25. Henry Johnson was in top form with thirteen dolls (4-5-4) for The Legion


The Chequers A came away form hosts The George B with all three points and open up a four point gap at the top of Section 3. Dave Simms led the way with a dozen dolls (5-4-3) as they won all three legs 18-14, 21-16, 20-14.
Vikings B in second place are waiting to pounce should Chequers slip up but dropped a valuable point at home to The Chequers C. Chasing a set of fourteen in the opening leg, Vikings anchor man Robin Charlton hit the four dolls needed to win the leg by one. Chequers levelled in the next leg 24-21, and set fifteen in the last leg. Vikings went pass this at a canter ending up with twenty. Charlton was top dog with a dozen dolls (4-4-4).
Title hopefuls Florence Park A had a setback at The King & Queen losing 2-1 in a vey tight game. The first leg was tied 17-17 with King & Queen winning it on three sticks. The second leg was also tied 13-13 and this time Florence Park winning it on three sticks to tie the game. Final and deciding leg King & Queen set and won 15-11.

Joint Section 4 leaders Red Lion A Old Marston had a lucky escape against bottom place Green Road Club B who played with a player short. The first leg was tied 12-12 with Red Lion winning it on three sticks. Green Road club won the second leg with ease 16-9 and finally secured maximum points in the final leg 17-14.
The Blackbird stay joint top with a maximum win at home to The Three Horseshoes. After winning the first leg 19-16 The Blackbird were set fifteen in the second leg. After a steady reply they needed four with their last two players, but with Steve Buckle blobbing out it was left to anchor man Dave Simms to come to the rescue to clang off the four dolls needed to take the leg. Last leg was comfortably won 22-13. James Dineen and Dave Simms top scored for The Bird with ten dolls apiece.
Littlemore British Legion stay in the mix with a fairly comfortable 3-0 home win over The Berkshire House. Steve Jessop led the way with eleven dolls (4-3-4) as they won all three legs 18-15, 17-14, 17-14.

Eamon Hanlon led the way for The Black Swan with a dozen dolls (4-4-4) as they came away from Rose Hill Club A with all three points in Section 5. They sneaked the opening leg by the odd doll 14-13 and won the second leg on three sticks after it was tied 13-13. Black Swan threw well in the final leg winning it 18-11.

Section 6 leaders Vikings Sports D put a severe dent in Rose Hill Club B title chances with a 3-0 home win. After easily winning the first leg 15-7 they had to rely on a three stick shoot out in the next leg after it was tied 10-10. Vikings wrapped up the win in the final leg 11-8.

In Section 7 Marston British Legion shocked The Bullnose Morris B by coming away with maximum points to secure only their second win of the season and in doing so put a damper in The Bullnose title dreams. Marston set and won the opening leg 13-11 and then had to rely on three sticks to go two up after it was tied 13-13. They set and won the deciding leg 15-10.
Graham Reading was in top form as he clanged off eleven dolls (4-4-3) for The Red Lion B Cassington away at Green Road Club A but it could not prevent them from going down to a 2-1 close defeat. It started off well for The Lion as they won the first leg 15-9 but just lost out going two up in the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 14-14. The deciding leg was also tied 13-13 and once again Green Road club snatching it on three sticks to win the leg and game.
Middle of the table clash between Florence Park B and Northway Club B produced some high scoring legs. Florence Park won the first leg 15-12 but Northway responded brilliantly in the next leg winning it 24-10. The final leg was tied 16-16 with Northway taking the honours in the final leg on three sticks. Ray Hambridge for Florence Park threw well for his dozen dolls (5-3-4).
It could not have been closer in the clash between Donnington Club B and The Original Swan A. Only one doll separated the teams over three legs (34-33). Donnington won the opener on three sticks after it was tied 11-11 and then won the next leg by the odd doll 11-10. Swan took a point in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 12-12.

The Black Horse are five points clear in Section 8 after a significant win at Red Lion A Cassington. They were never really in trouble as they won all three legs 11-7, 17-12, 14-5.
Kidlington Football clubs hopes were dashed as they crashed at home to The Cricketers Arms. It looked good for the club men when they won the first leg 12-8 but Cricketers responded dramatically winning the next two legs 16-9, 22-16. Steve Pieri threw well for The Cricketers with ten dolls (4-2-4).

In Section 9 The Gladiators C and Kings Arms Kidlington fought out a very tight game. The first two legs were tied 9-9 with The Glad’s winning them both on three sticks. The final leg Kings Arms set with eight, and in reply The Glad’s left anchor man Malcolm Walton needing two to win. Now considering he had failed to trouble the doll with his first two efforts Walton responded to the challenge by knocking off the two needed with his last two sticks!
