Games played Wednesday 27th April

In one of the coldest opening nights of the Aunt Sally season The Gladiators Barry Townsend clanged of a double sixer in his sixteen doll haul.(6-6-4) After hitting a brace of sixes and going for the maximum in his last throw he clanged the doll off the first two sticks but missed with his third. Team mate Keith Weller chipped in with a dozen dolls (4-4-4) as they came away from The Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry with all three points 28-26, 27-25, 27-25.
Jon Townsend was in top form for The Swan ‘A’ Eynsham as he hit fifteen dolls (4-5-6) to guide them to a 3-0 win at The New Club ‘A’. They won all three legs 26-22, 31-20, 29-28. Roger Goodall and Pip Goulding both hit thirteen dolls (4-4-5) for the Club men.
Luke Purcell bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll total (2-5-6) as the George came from behind to beat The Black Prince 2-1. After losing the opening leg 19-24 they were then set 27 in the next leg. However they passed that with ease replying with 31. The George then wrapped up victory in the final leg 26-21.
The Bullnose Morris ‘A’ playing their first ever game in the top section recorded a maximum victory at home to Garsington Sports Club ‘A’ 3-0 in a very close game. Bullnose won the opening leg on three sticks after it was tied 19-19 and then set and won the next leg 21-20. The final leg was also decided on three sticks after it was tied 19-19. Barry Ruffels threw well for Garsington Sports with a baker’s dozen (6-4-3).

In Section 2 Donnington Club ‘D’ anchor man Steve Walton whipped off thirteen dolls (4-4-5) but it proved to be in vain as they lost out to hosts The Gladiators ‘B’ 2-1. Chris Webb hit a six in his eleven dolls for The Glad’s in the leg scores of 18-15, 17-22, 22-20.
The Crown hit more dolls than their visitors North Oxford Con Club ‘B’ (64-62) but still lost out 2-1. Crown hit an impressive 27 in the opening leg with the club men replying with 18. The Con club levelled in the next leg 20-17 and then won the third and deciding leg 23-20. Ray Townsend top scored with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) for the Con Club.

The two Six Bells Kidlington teams met in Section 3 and it was the D team obtaining victory 3-0 over the A team. They comfortably won all three legs 22-18, 21-13, 20-16. Steve Ward was top dog with thirteen dolls (5-5-3).

Only one doll separated Green Road Club ‘B’ and Littlemore British Legion in Section 4 in a close encounter. With the game nicely poised at one leg each British Legion set twelve in the final leg. After a slow reply Green Road left anchor man Simon Hopkins four to win the leg, which he duly completed with his final stick, to give Green Road a 2-1 victory.

In Section 5 Cliff Lewis whipped off eleven dolls (4-5-2) for Donnington Club ‘C’ as they beat Six Bells ‘B’ Quarry 2-1 in the leg scores of 20-13, 19-10, 12-19.
Rose Hill ‘A’ proved too strong for hosts Red Lion ‘B’ Marston as they came away with all three legs 24-15, 15-11, 17-9. Monty Morgan top scored for Rose Hill with a dozen dolls (3-5-4).

In Section 6 Robin Cooper from Rose Hill Club ‘B’ had one of those unbelievable nights against Seacourt Bridge. He failed to trouble the doll in two of his throws, but hit a maximum six in his other one. Seacourt came away victorious winning 2-1 in the leg scores of 15-10, 13-17, 18-9.

In Section 9 Headington Con Clubs season almost got off to the worse start possible when their first seven players all hit blobs, before anchor man Colin Bracey saved their blushes by hitting one doll. New comers to the league Bletchingdon Sports not surprisingly passed that total with ease and went on to take maximum points in the next two legs 11-3, 14-8.
Kings Arms and The Original Swan ‘B’ both hit 28 dolls apiece but it was hosts the Kings Arms that claimed victory 2-1. The opening leg was tied 6-6 with Kings Arms winning it on three sticks, they then set and won the next leg 11-10. The Swan grabbing a point in the final leg 12-11.
