Week 11

REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 15th JULY

Andy Lewis hit a brace of sixes for Section 5 leaders New Club ‘B’ in their 3-0 win at The Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington. Lewis ended up with fourteen dolls as they ran out winners 27-16, 20-14, 17-16.
Red Lion Marston fell off the pace after dropping a leg at North Oxford Con Club. They scrapped by the opening leg on three sticks after it was tied 17-17 and then chasing a set of eighteen in the next leg failed miserably with a score of nine. Red Lion secured the win in the final leg 18-11.

Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham are back in the hunt for the Section One crown after coming away from The Black Prince ‘B’ with maximum points. They went one up in the first leg 28-21 and were then set 23 in the next leg. In reply Red Lion left their anchor man Keith Powell needing all six to win. He almost succeeded just falling one short with five which levelled the scores and sent it to three sticks. Prince set with fourteen and this time Powell whipped off three out of three to win the shootout by the odd doll. They wrapped up all three points in the final leg 24-21. Powell top scored with thirteen dolls (5-5-3).
Black Prince ‘A’ moved to the summit after a 3-0 win over previous leaders Yarnton British Legion. Phil Austin led the way with eleven dolls as they comfortably won all three legs 19-16, 25-18, 23-19.
Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ put a massive dent in The Woodman’s Premier title ambitions with a maximum win at home. Rob Bradford was in top form with fourteen dolls (6-3-5) in the leg scores of 24-22, 27-22, 25-23.
Six Bells ‘C’ pulled further away due to a hard fought 2-1 win at The New Club ‘A’. Set 28 in the opening leg Six Bells responded well to win it with a chase of 30. New Club levelled in the next leg 29-26 but Six Bells came back well in the final leg setting and winning it 32-28. Dick Walsh was in tremendous form for the Bells with fifteen dolls (5-4-6).

It’s very tight at the top of Section 2 with three teams sharing top spot. The Bullnose Morris ‘A’ beat fellow leaders Rose Hill’ A’ 3-0 in convincing fashion. A steady team performance saw them win all three legs 24-21, 19-17, 25-17.
Joint leaders Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ had a shock at basement boys The Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington crashing to a 2-1 defeat. They started of well winning the first leg 19-15, but lost the next leg by the odd doll 19-18. Chasing a set of 20 in the final leg, The Amp fell one short to give the Lion victory.
The Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham move to within one point of the leaders after a tight 3-0 win over Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry. The opening leg was tied 21-21 and was won on three sticks. They went two up in the next leg 22-19 thanks to a maximum six from Simon King. They really went to town in the final leg hitting a massive 32 to The Bells reply of 23. Mark Revill threw well for his thirteen dolls (4-4-5).

Two teams share top spot in Section 6 and King & Queen gave their title hopes a big boost against bottom club Marston British Legion, winning 3-0 but were given a scare. They easily won the first leg 18-14 then just scrapped by in the next leg 15-14. The final leg they had to rely on a three stick shoot out after it was tied 14-14. Dave Smith was top dog for Marston with ten dolls (1-4-5).
Rose Hill ‘C’ failed to take advantage after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Red Lion ‘C’ Eynsham. The Lion stormed the first leg 24-14. Rose Hill recovered well to level in the next leg 13-11 but lost the final and deciding leg 11-13.
Third place and only one point behind, Six Bells ‘D’ Kidlington failed to take any advantage and collapsed to 2-1 home defeat to Seacourt Bridge in the leg scores of 12-13, 19-17, 14-15.

It was a long night in the clash between Red Lion ‘B’ Marston and Red Lion Yarnton in Section 7. Yarnton won the first leg 21-12 and the next two legs were tied 14-14, & 13-13, with the Yarnton Lion roaring the loudest to win both legs on three sticks.
Berkshire House remain top despite dropping a leg at home to The Blackbird. After a narrow 14-13 win in the first leg to The Berkshire, The Blackbird drew level in the next leg 22-18. Berkshire secured victory in the final leg 21-19. Roy Sutherland (Berkshire ) and Nev Williams (Blackbird ) both were top hitters with eleven dolls (3-4-4).
Northway Club ‘A’ move clear in second place but were giving a scare away at bottom placed Catherine Wheel. Northway were set eleven in the opening leg and just beat that by one thanks to a three from anchor man Carl Hibbins. Catherine wheel levelled in the next leg 12-11 but a set of thirteen by Northway in the final leg was too much for Catherine Wheel as they fell three short in reply with ten.

Cricketers Arms title hopes took a bash in Section 8 as they crashed at home 3-0 to The Pheasant Inn ‘B’. The opening leg was tied 15-15, Pheasant winning it on three sticks. They then wound up victory in the next two legs 14-13, 19-16. Charlie Govier top scored for The Pheasant with ten dolls (3-3-4).
Andy Perrin was in top form for Red Lion ‘B’ Cassington with eleven dolls (4-3-4) but it was all in vain as they lost at home to leaders Donnington Club ‘B’. The leaders went one up in the first leg 17-14 but lost the next 16-18. They then had to rely on a three stick shoot out in the deciding leg after it was tied 15-15.

In Section 9 The Kite scored more dolls than their visitors The Kings Arms (29-25) but still lost 2-1. Kings Arms went into an unassailable lead winning the first two legs 7-5, 12-10, however The Kite had a good final leg winning it 14-6.
