REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 20TH MAY

79 year old Tony Nicholls showed the youngsters how it should be done by clanging off fifteen dolls (5-5-5) as The Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington came away with maximum points at Donnington Club ‘A’ in Section 4. They won all three legs 20-18, 16-15, 22-15.
In Premier /Section One Garry Smith and Trevor Greenaway both hit a baker’s dozen (3-5-5) as Garsington Sports ‘A’ took all three legs at The Black Prince ‘B’ 25-21, 28-21, 26-23. Neil Lyon was top dog for The Prince also with thirteen dolls (4-5-4).

Glad’s set the final leg with 20 but it was nowhere near enough as The Woodman flew by with another score of 27 to give them victory. Weller top scored with thirteen dolls (6-4-3).

In Section 2 Steve Tooke shone for The Golden Ball ‘A’ with thirteen dolls (3-6-4) as they came from behind to beat The Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ 2-1. The first leg went to the Amp 23-17, however Golden Ball came storming back in the next leg 27-19 to level and then won the third and deciding leg 21-19.

Vikings Sports ‘A’ got off to the perfect start against Brill Sports Club ‘B’ in Section 3 winning the first leg 20-17 but that was to be their only success as Brill came back well to win the next two legs 22-12, 20-17. Ian Houghton was top dog for Brill with thirteen dolls (5-4-4).

It was a long night in the Section 4 clash between Pheasant Inn ‘A’ and Rose Hill Club ‘B’. The opening leg was tied 18-18 with Pheasant winning it on three sticks. The second leg was also tied, 13-13 this time Rose Hill winning it on three sticks. The final leg Pheasant won by the odd doll 11-10.

In Section 5 Tracy Denton from Green Road Club ‘B’ bagged herself a six in her thirteen doll haul (3-4-6) to become the first lady to hit a six for a decade. However it could not prevent them from going down 2-1 at North Oxford Con Club ‘A’ in the leg scores of 19-13, 21-15, 13-14.

In Section 6 White Hart ‘A’ came away from Marston British Legion with maximum points thanks to family members Uncle and nephew Wilkins. Chris Wilkins had a mixed night hitting a 3 in the first leg and then followed that up with his first ever six in the next leg. However the excitement must have got too much as he blobbed out in the final leg. His uncle Rod also bagged himself a six in his eleven dolls as they won all three legs 21-14, 16-12, 16-16 (on three sticks).
Kirk Ridgway clanged off fourteen dolls (6-4-4) to guide Six Bells ‘D’ Kidlington to a comfortable 3-0 win at home to The Three Horseshoes 20-17, 22-16, 14-11.

Cowley Workers could only muster up six players in Section 7 against Northway Club ‘A’ but they still managed to win 2-1. Michael Griffin top scored with eleven dolls (4-4-3) in the leg scores of 15-13, 12-11, 8-16.

There was some high scoring in Section 9 between The Black Swan and Golden Ball ‘B’. The Swan set the opening leg with 15 and in reply Golden Ball left anchor man Lee Worral needing five to win, which proved no problem as he clanged off all six! Golden Ball set the second leg with 16 and this time Worral whipped off just the two dolls needed to give them a 2-0 lead. The final leg chasing a set of 13 Worral needing five to win again came up two short to give Black Swan a well deserved point.
