REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 23rd JULY

Fourteen dolls apiece from Kevin Baker (6-3-5) and Den Sellar (4-5-5) guided The Cricketers ‘B’ to a comprehensive victory at home to Garsington Sports ‘A’ and keep their ambitions of retaining the Premier title alive. Francis Hillier chipped in with a six as they won all three legs 31-14, 28-21, 29-26.
After losing their first game of the season last week, leaders Six Bells ‘C’ lost again, this time at home to Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham 2-1. It started off well as they won the opening leg 24-17, however Red Lion roared back in the next two legs 33-25, 31-25.
Three Pigeons stay three points behind after a scrappy win over Gladiators 2-1. They won the first leg by the odd doll 26-25, won the second leg comfortably 34-24, but failed to take maximum points by losing the final leg 26-23. Kevin Giles (6-2-5) and Neil Lyon (5-5-3) top scored for The Pigeons, while Denis Butler hit a bakers dozen (5-4-4) for The Gladiators.
Yarnton British Legion opened up a five point gap at the top of Section One after beating Rose Hill ‘A’ 3-0. Mark Poulter starred with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) in the leg scores of 25-19, 21-18, 24-19.

In Section 2 despite scoring fewer dolls then their hosts (53-51) The Chequers ‘A’ beat The Three Horseshoes 2-1. Chequers were set 16 in the opening leg, and they got off to a terrible start in reply with their first two players both hitting blobs. Roger Clements then got the revival started with a maximum six which left anchor man Dave Green needing five to win, which he duly did with his last stick. Chequers then went two up in the next leg 16-15 with The Horseshoes winning the last leg 22-18.
The Woodman are steadily climbing the table after beating Team Monarch 3-0 at home. Pete King led the way with thirteen dolls (4-5-4) as they claimed maximum points 22-18, 23-21, 28-13
After playing the game for 43 years Jeff Cox from The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ finally hit a maximum six in their 2-1 win at home to The Vikings ‘B’. His six came in his final throw as the Ampleforth came from behind after losing the first leg 17-22, they then went on to win the next two legs in style 27-15, 28-19.
Simon King with thirteen dolls (5-4-4) was top dog for Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham as they demolished visitors Red Lion Kidlington 3-0. They won all three legs with ease 27-14, 23-15, 26-15.

Bullnose Morris ‘A’ still lead Section 3 but they were given a scare by eighth placed The Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington. Bullnose won the opening leg 19-17 and was set 20 in the next leg. Anchor man Willy Waite went on needing all six to tie and almost pulled it off after clanging off the doll with his first five sticks he missed with his last. Bullnose then made sure of victory in the final leg 26-18.

Vikings Sports ‘D’ remain top of Section 5 after a close home victory to Garsington Sports ‘B’ who won the opening leg 20-17. Vikings levelled in the next leg 19-12 and then had to rely on a three stick shoot out after it was tied 16-16. Bernie McCormack top scored with eleven dolls 4-4-3.
Lee Mason was in sparkling form as he clanged off a six in his fourteen doll haul (3-6-5) as Brill Sports Club ‘A’ beat New Club ‘B’ 2-1. New Club won the first leg 14-12 however Brill came storming back to win the next two legs and with the game 24-12, 21-17.

It’s very tight in Section 6 with only five points separating nine of the ten teams. King & Queen ‘B’ lead by one point after coming away from The Chandos Arms with all three points in the leg scores of 11-7, 17-15, 16-10.
Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ failed to reach the top with a disastrous 3-0 home loss to North Oxford Con Club ‘A’. They were never really in the match as they lost all three legs 22-16, 15-11, 21-14.

In Section 7 Donnington Social Club ‘B’ won the opening leg against Headington British Legion on three sticks after it was tied 14-14 ,but that was to prove to be their only success, as they fell apart in the next two legs losing them 17-6, 11-8.

Rory Mangan was in top form for Section 8 leaders The Chequers ‘C’ with thirteen dolls including his first ever six (4-6-3) as they won all three legs against Littlemore British Legion 20-15, 17-8, 16-15.

Top of the table clash in Section 9 saw leaders Kings Arms ‘A’ inflict the first defeat of the season for The Golden Ball in a good spirited game. Kings Arms won the first leg 22-16 and then snatched the second leg on three sticks after it was tied 16-16. Golden Ball responded well to win the final leg 21-11 to grab a well earned point.
Littlemore Rugby Club won their second game of the season with a close 3-0 home win over The Kite, 13-8, 11-10, 7-6.

Kidlington Football Club still cling on to top spot despite losing at home to their closest rivals The Pheasant Inn ‘B’. The first leg was tied 10-10 with The Pheasant winning it on three sticks, who then went two up in the next leg 16-8. Kidlington won the final leg 14-10.
