Week 5

REPORT FROM WEDNESDAY 28th MAY
Kevin Baker almost hit the magical maximum 18 for The Cricketers ‘B’ away at The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington but fell agonisingly close by falling one short. He clanged off the first sixteen dolls but missed with his seventeenth stick and whipped off the last to end with a total haul of seventeen. He also ended up on the losing side as The Bells won 2-1. The first leg was tied 28-28 with The Cricketers taking it on three sticks. The Six Bells comfortably won the next two legs 30-23, 30-23. Ady Cross (5-4-5) and Roger Goodall (6-3-5) top scored with fourteen dolls apiece for The Bells.
The Three Pigeons dropped their first legs of the season and their first defeat as The Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham came from behind to win 2-1. Pigeons won the opening leg 29-22, however Red Lion responded well winning the next two legs 28-26, 29-22. Keith Powell was top dog with thirteen dolls (5-5-3).
Jez Thompson was in top form for Yarnton British Legion with a baker’s dozen (5-5-3) as they defeated New Club ‘A’ 2-1 in the leg scores of 26-28, 31-25, 21-20. Adrian Shepherd hit fourteen dolls (4-5-5) to no avail for the New Club.
Despite fourteen dolls (6-4-4) from Chris Jenkins it still could not prevent The Gladiators ‘A’ crashing at home to Rose Hill Club ‘A’ 2-1 to give them their first win of the season. It was all over after the first two legs 25-23, 27-20 in Rose Hill’s favour. The Glad’s grabbing a point in the final leg 22-18.

In Section 2 The Woodman inflicted the first defeat for The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ beating them 2-1. Woodman raced to a 2-0 lead 20-18, 24-20, before Ampleforth gained a point in the final leg 24-21.
Jeff Glenister was in top form clanging off fourteen dolls (5-5-4) for The Griffin as they beat Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham 2-1 in the leg scores of 18-16, 21-22, 20-16.
Six Bells Quarry just about remain unbeaten after coming from behind the beat hosts Vikings Sports ‘B’ 2-1. The opening leg went to Vikings 16-11 and the second leg was tied 16-16 with The Bells winning it on three sticks. They made sure of victory in the final leg 25-14.

The Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington Mark Warrell had one of those nights to forget and remember in Section 3. After failing to trouble the doll in his first two throws he clanged off all six in his final throw, to help them to a 2-1 win over Tiddington Cricket Club.
The Crown Chalgrove beat Vikings Sports ‘A’ 3-0 but the game was much closer than the score line suggests. They won the opening leg by the odd doll 18-17 the second 18-16 and final leg by the odd doll again 17-16. Don Armstrong top scored with eleven dolls (3-4-4).
Leaders Bullnose Morris crashed to their first defeat as The Crown Otmoor took all three legs 18-16, 14-13, 25-16.

In Section 6 only two dolls separated The Chandos Arms and Brill Sports Club ‘B’ but it was enough to give Brill all three points. The opening leg Brill won 15-13 but had to rely on three stick shoot outs in the next two legs as they were tied 16-16 & 13-13. Dale Sweetman was top dog with nine dolls (3-4-2).

Catherine Wheel ‘A’ scored one more doll than visitors The Bullnose ‘B’ but still lost out 2-1 in Section 7. Bullnose scrapped the opening leg 14-13 with Catherine Wheel levelling in the next leg 13-9. The final and deciding leg Bullnose won by the odd doll 13-12.
In a high scoring game for this section Rose Hill Club ‘B’ claimed maximum points at home to Prince Of Wales winning all three legs 21-18, 18-14, 14-13. Arthur Bowers for Rose Hill and Neil Butler for POW both hit ten dolls (3-3-4).

Gladiators ‘B’ march on in Section 8 with a 3-0 win at Red Lion Marston. They won the opening leg 11-9, the second on three sticks after it was tied 10-10 and the final leg 12-9.
The Chequers ‘C’ crashed to their first loss of the season at Florence Park ‘B’ .They lost the first two legs 16-10, 14-13 before winning the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 12-12.

In Section 9 The Golden Ball just kept their unbeaten record intact after beating Florence Park ‘A’. They won the first leg 15-9 but had to rely on three sticks in the next leg after it was drawn 17-17. Florence Park winning the final leg 17-14.
