REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 14TH MAY
Neil Lyon clanged of a maximum eighteen dolls (6-6-6) to become only the 16th player of the history of the league to achieve this feat. It came as The Three Pigeons defeated Yarnton British Legion at home 3-0 and still yet to drop a leg. They comfortably won all three legs 34-23, 32-26, 32-28 to amass a total haul of 98 dolls. Kevin Giles chipped in with fifteen dolls (6-5-4) and Dave Townsend contributed with fourteen dolls (4-5-5). Henry Johnson was top dog for the Legion with thirteen dolls (4-5-4).
Geoff Townsend was in fine form with fifteen dolls (6-5-4) as The Cricketers begin their fight back to retain the title with a 3-0 win away at The Black Prince, winning all three legs 29-19, 30-25, 26-23.
Promoted to the Premier Section The Gladiators showed a good account of themselves as they took maximum points at home to The New Club ‘A’. Chris Jenkins led the way with fifteen dolls (6-5-4) in the leg scores of 27-26, 31-18, 30-21.
In Section 2 Charlie Buckingham for The Woodman bagged himself a six in his fourteen doll haul (3-5-6) but it was all in vain as they lost at The Chequers ‘A’ 2-1, who won the opening leg 28-21. Woodman levelled in the next leg 20-19 but the Chequers won the final and deciding leg 23-17.
It wasn’t unlucky thirteen for Derek Thomas as he clanged off a bakers dozen (6-5-2) for The Crown ‘A’ in their 3-0 win at home to Kennington Social Club in Section 3. The first leg was settled on three sticks after it was tied 21-21 with the Crown making sure of maximum points in the next two legs 21-14, 19-13.
There was very little to separate The Bullnose Morris ‘A’ and Vikings Sports ‘A’ as two legs went to three sticks. Bullnose won the opening leg 17-12 and then took a 2-0 lead in the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 16-16. The final leg was also tied 18-18 however Vikings grabbed a point by winning the leg on three sticks.
In Section 4 James Morrison was the star for Masons Arms ‘B’ as he clanged off thirteen dolls (4-5-4) in their clash against The George, who won the first leg 19-15. Masons rallied well in the next two legs to win them 19-11, 16-12.
Vikings Sports ‘D’ just got the better over North Oxford Con Club in Section 5. Vikings set the first leg with 16, however a hit of four dolls from Con Clubs anchor man Mick Richardson tied the leg, with Vikings winning it on three sticks. Vikings went two nil up in the next leg 21-13 and then set 17 in the final leg. Once again Richardson came to the rescue by hitting the two dolls off needed to win the leg and a point for the Con club by one doll.
In Section 6 Brill Sports Club John Burnell was in great form by hitting thirteen dolls (3-5-5) but it could not prevent them going down to a 2-1 defeat at The Three Horseshoes ‘B’. After winning the first two legs 17-13, 19-15, Horseshoes were chasing 20 in the final leg. Anchor man Jon Dunhill was left needing six to tie the leg, and a good effort left him just one short with 5. Dunhill top scoring with a dozen dolls (3-4-5).
Warwick Morris whipped of twelve dolls (5-2-5) for The Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington in Section 7 to guide them to a comfortable win at The Kings Arms ‘B’ 16-6, 15-12, 15-12.
Nathan O’Donnell also hit a dozen dolls (5-3-4) as Prince Of Wales beat The Blackbird 2-1. Nev Williams was top scorer for The Bird with ten dolls (3-5-2) in the leg scores of 19-12, 17-19, 16-11.
