Report Week 11

REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 10th JULY

A rare event happened in the Premier/ Section One clash between The Red Lion Eynsham A & B Teams. It was a long night as all three legs were tied and had to be decided on three stick shoot outs. The opening leg was tied 21-21 with the A side winning it on three sticks. The next two legs were tied 23-23, 23-23 with the B side claiming victory in the three stick shoot outs.
New Club ‘A’ clipped the wings of The Three Pigeons by coming away with a 2-1 hard fought victory. John Horton led the way with fourteen dolls (5-5-4) as they won the first two legs 28-23, 31-25. Pigeons grabbing a point in the final leg 27-25. Kevin Giles was top dog for The Pigeons with fourteen dolls 5-4-5.
Gladiators ‘A’ stay top of Section One with a 2-1 win at Garsington Sports ‘A’. Chris Jenkins was in fine form as he clanged off thirteen dolls (4-5-4) but they lost the opening leg 24-20. The Glad’s recovered well to take the next two legs 26-24, 19-17.
In a low scoring but close game The Cricketers defeated hosts Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington 3-0. They won the first leg on three sticks after it was tied then went on to take maximum points in the next two legs 26-25, 27-25.

In Section Two Cowley Workers finally got their first win under their belt by beating The Woodman 2-1. They made hard of work of it though by losing the opening leg 18-8. The Workers recovered well to level in the next leg 22-26 and finally gained that first victory in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 16-16.

There was very little to separate The Seacourt Bridge and Queens Head ‘A’ in Section 3 with two legs going to three sticks and Steve James (Queens Head) 5-3-5 and Dan Brown (Seacourt) 3-4-6 hitting thirteen dolls apiece. Queens Head took the first leg 17-15 however the next two legs were tied 18-18, 18-18. Seacourt won the second leg on three sticks but Queens Head clinched victory in the final leg on three sticks.
The Three Horseshoes Phil Jackson bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul as they just beat The Chequers ‘C’ by the odd doll. The first leg went to the Horseshoes 18-17 but The Chequers levelled in the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 17-17. The final and deciding leg was also tied 19-19 and had to be decided on three sticks which The Horseshoes claimed.

The top two in Section 4 clashed and it was leaders The Original Swan ‘A’ who lost away to second place The Crown in a narrow 2-1 defeat. Crown took an early lead winning the opening leg 15-13 with The Swan levelling in the next leg 21-17. The final leg Swan set 20 which The Crown matched thanks to four dolls from anchor man Terry Bagnall. The Crown snatched victory in the three sticks throw off.
Chris Webb was in astonishing form as he clanged off fifteen dolls (6-5-4) for The Six Bells ‘B’ Quarry but it was to no avail as they lost 2-1 at Kidlington Sports Club ‘B’. They started of well winning the first leg 14-9 but the Sportsmen came back well to win the next two legs 20-16, 20-18.

King & Queen ‘B’ boosted their Section 5 chances with a 3-0 win at The Masons Arms ‘B’. They won the first two legs 21-17, 20-15 but had to rely on three sticks in the final leg after it was tied 11-11. Thirteen year old Liam Costar top scored for The Masons with ten dolls (4-3-3).

In Section 6 Chandos Arms almost pulled of a shock against leaders Donnington Club ‘C’ when they won the first leg 14-10. Donnington replied well in the next leg 20-9 but won the deciding leg by the odd doll 16-15.
The George ‘A’ kept the pressure on the leaders with a 2-1 win against The Priory. They had to do it the hard way after losing the first leg 13-12 they won the next two 16-12, 23-9. Monty Morgan top scored with eleven dolls (4-2-5).

The Cricketers ‘A’ lost their unbeaten record to The Six Bells ‘D’ Kidlington in Section 7. The Bells set and won the first leg 17-13 however the Cricketers recovered well to win the next 19-17. The final and deciding leg The Bells set and won 16-13 to give the Cricketers their first taste of defeat.
In a strange scoring game the opening leg between Brill Sports Club ‘A’ and Catherine Wheel was tied 5-5 with Brill winning it on three sticks. They then went two up in the next leg 12-9 with the final leg also drawn 15-15. Once again Brill club triumphed in the three sticks.

In Section 8 three leg scores of sixteen was enough to give The Bullnose Morris ‘B’ a 3-0 win at Northway Club and move them into second place. Northway replied with 12-13-12. Liam O’Callaghan was top dog for The Bullnose with eight dolls.

Mick Croft (4-4-3) and Simon Hopkins (4-3-4) top scored for The Kings Arms as they hit a best 50 dolls in total in their 3-0 defeat over Red Lion ‘A’ Cassington in Section 9. They won all three legs 18-6, 16-12, 16-10.
