Report Week 7
Terry Stuart was in top form as he clanged off fourteen dolls (5-3-6) to steer Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham to a 2-1 win at The Cricketers ’B’. They won the first two legs 26-19, 24-22 with The Cricketers grabbing a point in the final leg 24-19.
Red Lion ‘B’ could not emulate their ‘A’ team as they crashed at home to Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington for whom Roger Goodall top scored with fourteen dolls (5-4-5). Team mate Phil Austin bagged himself a six in his ten doll haul as they won all three legs 27-24, 23-20, 29-23.
It was not unlucky thirteen for The Ampleforths Mark Washington as he hit a bakers dozen (4-5-4) in their maximum win at home to Garsington Sports ‘A’. They won the opening leg 24-21 but had to rely on a one stick shootout in the next leg after it was tied 24-24. Ampleforth then made sure of all three points in the final leg 26-21.
The top two teams met in Section 2 and it was leaders Rose Hill who came away victorious and remain unbeaten as they came from behind in their 2-1 win at The Black Prince ‘A’. After losing the opening leg 22-17 Rose hill stormed back to take the next two legs 25-18, 25-22. Kevin Stuart was the star for Rose Hill with thirteen dolls (3-5-5).
It was very close in the clash between Chequers ‘A’ and Team Monarch. The first leg was tied 16-16 with The Chequers winning it on three sticks. They then set the next leg with 22, and in reply Team Monarch left anchor man Darren Cox six to tie the leg, but he fell one short with a five to give The Chequers a two nil lead. Chequers wrapped it up in the final leg 20-18. Chequers Steve Tooke bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul (3-6-4).
Neil Pratley with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) led The Woodman to a 2-1 win against The Bullnose Morris ‘A’ in the leg scores of 19-14, 16-19, 24-18.
Steve Brandon hit his best score of the season with thirteen dolls (5-4-4) as The Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry beat Black Prince B in a close encounter. They easily won the opening leg 25-18 but had to rely on three sticks in the next leg after it was tied 20-20. Black Prince won the final leg 20-19 thanks to anchor man Robin Busby who knocked of the four dolls needed to win it by the odd doll.
In Section 3 Queens Head ‘A’ are still looking for their first win after they lost at home to The Three Horseshoes 2-1. The damage was done in the first two legs which they lost 15-12, 21-15. Queens rallied in the final leg winning it 19-18.
It was a long night in the clash between Vikings Sports ‘A’ and New Club ‘B’ in Section 4 as two of the legs went to three sticks. The opening leg was tied 15-15 with New Club winning it on three sticks. Vikings levelled in the next leg 18-16. The final and deciding leg went to Vikings after it was tied 14-14.
The same happened in the clash between Masons Arms ‘A’ and Cowley Con Club. The club men won the first leg 19-14. The next two legs were tied 20-20 & 16-16 with The Masons winning both legs on three sticks.
Garsington Sports ‘B’ and Tiddington Cricket Club both hit fifty five dolls however it was the Cricket men who claimed victory. The won the first two legs 20-17, 18-16 with Garsignton winning the last leg 22-17. Tiddingtons Eric Fincham threw a maiden as he failed to trouble the doll while Garsington’s Stephen Wyatt hit a maximum six.
Section 5 leaders The Masons ‘B’ just got the better over Donnington Club ‘A’ mainly thanks to some steady throwing by Phil Kimber who hit 4-4-4 in his dozen dolls total. Masons won the first leg 16-14 and then set twenty in the next leg. In reply Donnington left anchor man Brian Simpson needing four to win the leg and he did not disappoint clanging of the winning doll with his final stick. Mason then won the deciding leg 20-19.
After losing their first game of the season last week, The George ‘A’ lost again and the lead in Section 6 to Donnington Club ‘C’. They lost the first leg 14-13 but levelled in the next leg 18-15. Donnington took the final leg and with it the game 20-15.
In Section 8 it was certainly unlucky thirteen for Rose Hill Club ‘B’ as they hit thirteen in all three legs but it was not enough to prevent Red Lion Yarnton from winning each leg with replies of 18-19-14. Paul Kilcoyne top scored with ten dolls (4-3-3).
