Report Week 3

REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 8th MAY

Chris Webb clanged of fifteen dolls (4-6-5) to inspire the Six Bells’ B’ Quarry to a 2-1 win at home to Kidlington Sports ‘B’ in Section 3. They lost the opening leg 18-16 but came back well to win the next two legs 22-13, 20-18.

In the Premier Section Garsington Sports banged in a middle leg of 34 with Martin Ruffels and Garry Smith both hitting a six, but it could not prevent them going down 2-1 at The Gladiators ‘A’ 2-1. The Glad’s won the first leg 29-23 then came Garsington’s 34-25 win to level the scores. Gladiators then set 27 in the final leg which proved too much for Garsington as they crashed to a score of 16. Dennis Butler top scored for The Gladiators with thirteen dolls (4-5-4).
Despite Kevin Giles with fourteen dolls (4-5-5) and Neil Lyon with thirteen dolls (5-5-3) they capitulated away at The New Club ‘A’ 3-0. Ady Shepherd starred for the New Club with a bakers dozen (5-4-4) as they won all three legs 31-22, 29-28, 29-26.
Vikings Sports ‘B’ claimed their first win of the season over Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ who are still looking for their first win. Ampleforth started of well winning the first leg 28-22 but lost the next 24-16. In the final leg they set 23 and it looked to be enough as a slow reply by Vikings left anchor man Robin Charlton needing four to win, and he did not disappoint as he clanged off the four with the winning stick being his last one. Charlton top scored with thirteen dolls (4-5-4).

In Section 2 Team Monarch won the opening leg against The Griffin 18-16 but then fell apart in the next two legs 22-10, 23-17 to give The Griffin victory. It proved not to be unlucky for The Griffin’s Jeff Glenister as he hit a six in his bakers dozen (2-5-6).

Despite scoring more dolls then their opponents (43-39) Queens Head ‘A’ still lost 2-1 to visitors Seacourt Bridge in Section 3. They easily won the opening leg 15-7 and then set sixteen in the next leg. Seacourt’s anchor man Mick Beane whipped off five dolls when only three was needed to win the leg. Then in the final leg he hit the two dolls needed to win the final and deciding leg 13-12.
Three Horseshoes came away from The Chequers ‘C’ with maximum points but the result was much closer than the score suggests. Horseshoes won the first leg 18-16 and the second 21-19. The final leg Chequers set 20, and it looked to be enough until up stepped anchor man Andy Bradford to hit the four dolls needed to tie the leg, which the Horseshoes won on three sticks.

In Section 6 Monty Morgan hit double figures (3-4-3) for The George ‘A’ as they defeated The Priory 2-1. The first two legs were shared 13-9, 11-14, before the George made sure of victory in the final leg 17-10.

In Section 9 birthday boy Peter O’Gara hit a six with his second throw but then followed it up with a blob for The White Hart in their 3-0 loss at The Blackbird who won all three legs 18-11, 17-13, 12-5.
Only one doll separated The Kite and North Oxford Con Club in all three legs in a very tight game.
The Kite won the first leg thanks to anchor man Bob Heavens who hit the three dolls needed after they were set a score of 14. (15-14) Kite set the next leg and this time it was the Club men’s anchor man Paul Smith who came to the rescue also whipping off three dolls to take the leg 13-12. The final and deciding leg Kite set again this time with eleven, but Paul Smith turned on the style to clang off four dolls to win the leg by the odd doll 12-11. Smith ended up with a respectable eleven dolls.
