REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 24th APRIL

On the opening night of the 2013 season Paul Sawyer clanged off a double sixer in his haul of fifteen dolls for The Three Pigeons as they beat The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ 2-1. He was well supported by Neil Lyon (6-3-5) and Eddie Edwards (4-5-5) who both hit fourteen dolls in the leg scores of 32-20, 27-28, 31-21. Premier Section champions The Cricketers ‘B’ crashed at home to Section One side The Gladiators ‘A’ 2-1. Cricketers won the opening leg 27-26 but Gladiators came storming back to take the next two legs 30-21, 30-19. Philip Adams top scored with fourteen dolls (4-6-4)
Last season’s Section One champions and newly promoted to the Premier, Garsington Sports ‘A’ lost away at the Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham 3-0. Simon King for the Red Lion was in spectacular form as he clanged of fifteen dolls (5-5-5) in the leg scores of 26-19, 28-18, 26-22.
Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham hit two legs of 30 as they came from behind to beat New Club ‘A’ 21-28, 30-26,
30-25. Mick Berry for The Lion was top dog with thirteen dolls (5-5-3).
Vikings ‘B’ almost pulled of a shock at home to Six Bells ‘C’. The opening leg went the Six Bells on a one stick shoot out, and then Vikings levelled in the next leg 31-26. Vikings set the final and deciding leg with 25 and it looked to be enough after as slow start by The Bells, left their last three men thirteen to win. Alan Surman whipped off a four, followed by Alan Goodgame with five, which left anchor man Steve Ward to knock of the four dolls for victory with his final stick.

In Section 2 Team Monarch came away form the Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry with a 3-0 win, but it was much closer than the score line suggests. The opening leg was tied 15-15 which Monarch won on three sticks. They then went 2-0 up in the second leg 21-14. Six Bells set the final leg with 18 which almost proved to be enough, however Monarch’s anchor man Darren Cox needing five to win, did just that hitting the winning doll with his last stick.
Paul Holt clanged off fourteen dolls (3-6-5) to help the Black Prince ’B’ to a 2-1 win at The Bullnose ‘A’. They lost the first leg 17-22 won the next 22-16 and then banged in a score of 31 in the final leg which was to strong for The Bullnose who replied with 21. Graham Hambridge top scored for The Bullnose with a dozen dolls (5-3-4).

Rose Hill ‘A’ had to thank their anchor man Brian Mossop for their 3-0 win at The Woodman, who set all three legs. The opening leg Rose Hill was chasing 18 and Mossop only needing one to win the leg knocked off two. The next leg he clanged off the three needed to win the leg by the odd doll 19-18. In the final leg Woodman set 20 and this time Mossop needing a full house to win this time, did not disappoint as he whipped of all six dolls to wrap up victory.

In Section 3 it was not unlucky thirteen for The Chequers ‘C’ Dave Green as he hit a bakers dozen (4-5-4) to see them comfortably beat Seacourt Bridge 3-0 in the leg scores of 22-19, 23-13, 25-13.
The Three Horseshoes and Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington both hit 57 dolls apiece but it was The Horseshoes who came out on top 19-15, 19-18, 19-24. Phil Jackson hit a six in his dozen dolls for The Three Horseshoes. Alan Wood was in outstanding form for the Bells with fourteen dolls (4-5-5).

Dick Brownsill led the way for Tiddington Cricket Club with thirteen dolls (5-5-3) as they beat The Crown ‘A’ 3-0 in Section 4.The result flattered the Cricket Club as they only just ran out winners 19-18, 23-17, 17-15.

In Section 8 Rose Hill ‘B’ scored more dolls than The Crooked Pot ‘A’ but still lost 2-1. They lost the opening leg 9-12 but came back well in the second leg to win it easily 20-8. Crooked Pot won the final leg 18-15. Eddie Greenaway top scored for The Crooked Pot with ten dolls, (3-2-5).

In Section 9 Kings Arms Kidlington just got the better over The George ‘B’ Littlemore. After winning the opening leg 14-11 they then went on to take the next two legs by the odd doll 12-11, 10-9.

In a low scoring but close game in Section 10 Red Lion ‘B’ Garsington had a successful visit to Oxford Rugby club. They won the first leg in a very low scoring leg 3-2. They then went two nil up 9-7 in the next leg and completed the maximum score 10-9 in the final leg.
