Report Week 15

REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 15th AUGUST

Alan Holt was in devastating form with fifteen dolls including a maximum six (5-6-4) as The Black Prince languishing near the foot of the table beat The Griffin 2-1 in Section 2. They won the first two legs 25-18, 28-20 with The Griffin grabbing a point in the final leg 24-21.
Colin Butler with eleven dolls (4-5-2) led the way for the leaders Vikings ‘B’ claiming maximum points at home to The Six Bells Quarry and maintains a two point lead. Steady throwing saw them through 20-14, 21-12, 21-17.

The top two in the Premier clashed and it was holders The Cricketers ‘B’ at home to The Three Pigeons who claimed a close thought 3-0 win. Cricketers won the opening leg 28-26 and just won the next two legs by the odd doll 24-23, 24-23. Ivor Clarke for The Cricketers top scored with a bakers dozen (5-5-3).
Billy Trinder and Martin Ruffles both hit fourteen dolls (5-4-5) for Garsington Sports ‘A’ but it was still not enough to stop The New Club ‘A’ winning 2-1. The first leg was tied 24-24 with The New Club taking it on three sticks. New Club then went two up in the next leg 29-24 however Garsington came back with a bang in the final leg with a set of 33, which proved to strong for New Club who replied with 21.
Dick Walsh clanged off fourteen dolls (3-6-5) for The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington who had to come from behind to beat Red Lion ‘B’ Kidlington 2-1. The Lion started well taking the first leg 30-23 but The Bells responded well to win the next two legs 27-25, 32-25. Alan Goodgame bagged himself a six in his thirteen dolls (5-2-6) for The Bells.

The top two played each other in Section Three and it was the leaders Bullnose Morris who extended their lead with a 2-1 low scoring win against The Original Swan ‘A’. Bullnose won the first leg 21-14 and the second were won on three sticks after it was tied 14-14. The Swan claimed a point in the final leg 14-12.

Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington and King & Queen ‘A’ share the lead in Section 4. Six Bells came away form The Fairview ‘A’ with all three points in the 16-16, 20-12, 19-10 scoreline. King & Queen were also on their way to maximum points at The Seacourt Bridge after winning the first two legs 23-18, 15-15 (on three sticks), they lost the final leg 22-19.

Allen Prince and James Gilding both hit a six for The New Club ‘B’ but it could not prevent them going down 2-1 to Donnington Club ‘C’ in Section 5 who won the first two legs 14-14 (on three Sticks), 18-11. New Club winning the third leg 19-17.

In Section 7 second placed Nut Tree had a scare at home to Red Lion Yarnton. They comfortably won the first leg 21-16 but lost the next leg 12-11. Red Lion then set them eighteen in the deciding leg and all was going well with only four needed from their last two players, however Robert Price failed to trouble the doll and it was left up to anchor man Martin Pratley to whip of the four dolls needed with a stick to spare.
Northway Club ‘A’ were desperately unlucky to come away empty from Kidlington Sports Club ‘A’. After losing the first leg 13-11 they then went on to lose the next two legs on three sticks after they were tied 11-11, 18-18.
Despite Geoff Howell failing to hit the doll all night Catherine Wheel were still to strong for The Six Bells ‘B’ in Section 8. They won all three legs 15-7, 14-11, 13-12.

In Section 10 Nigel DeBanks from The Corner House had mixed fortunes in their game against Prince Of Wales Horspath Road. He started of with a blob and then hit a perfect six in the next leg before finishing off with a three as they ran out 2-1 winners 3-10, 15-14, 9-8.
Leaders The Priory suffered their second defeat of the season when they visited Kennington Social Club in a close contest. Priory went one nil up 14-12 in the first leg with the club men levelling in the next leg 14-13. They then claimed victory in the final and deciding leg 17-15. Colin Fox threw well for his thirteen dolls (4-5-4).
