REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 1st AUGUST

The top two teams in the Premier Section Cricketers ‘B’ and The Three Pigeons both crashed to 3-0 away defeats as the chase for the title intensifies. Holders The Cricketers lost 3-0 at Red Lion Brill despite John Townsend (3-6-5) and Barry Townsend (4-6-3) both bagging themselves a maximum six in the 29-24, 30-28, 31-28 leg scores. The Three Pigeons visited The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington and came away empty. Six Bells won the opening leg 30-26 and won the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 24-24. The final leg Six Bells won it by the odd doll 26-25. Alan Goodgame (Six Bells) and Neil Lyon (Pigeons) both hit thirteen dolls.
The Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham took full advantage of the slip ups and are now only three points behind after beating Garsington Sports ‘A’ in a comfortable 3-0 win. They coasted to victory 21-17, 30-26, 27-21.
Ray Townsend was in top form as he clanged off fourteen dolls (4-5-5) for Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington in their 2-1 home win over The New Club ‘A’. They had to do it the hard way as they lost the opening leg 27-16 but recovered well to win the next two 25-19, 27-25. Dave Crocker and Clive Wright for The New Club both hit a six.

In Section 2 veteran Pete Hitchman at 75 years young showed the youngsters how it’s done as he whipped off fourteen dolls (5-4-5) for The Girffin in their 2-1 defeat over The Chequers ‘A’. They lost the opening leg by the odd doll 22-21 but claimed the next two in style 26-16, 26-19.
Leaders Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham had a disastrous night as they visited The Six Bells Quarry and came away with nothing. James Bennet for The Bells led the way with thirteen dolls (4-3-6) as they won all three legs 23-21, 20-17, 19-15. Mark Revill for The Red Lion also hit a bakers dozen (5-5-3).

Team Monarch retains their push up the table in Section 3 with their tenth win out of the last eleven in their 3-0 win at Green Road Club. After taking the first two legs 26-18, 20-17 they had to rely on a three stick shootout in the final leg after it was tied 19-19. Keith Bull top scored with a steady dozen dolls (4-4-4).

There’s a three way tie at the top of Section 4 and Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington put a huge dent in King & Queens ‘A’ title ambitions with a 2-1 win. Alan Wood impressed with fourteen dolls (5-4-5) for The Bells in the leg scores of 23-18, 16-22, 16-11.
Despite Colin Tasker failing to trouble the doll all night Secaourt Bridge still managed to scrape a victory at home to Donnington Club ‘A’. They lost the first leg 19-16, levelled in the next 15-12 and claimed victory in the final leg 20-15.

The top two clashed in Section 5 and it was a bit of an anti climax as leaders North Oxford Con Club had a comfortable 3-0 against Queens Head. The club men were never in any trouble as they ran out 20-17, 19-13, 13-12 winners.
Folly Bridge surge up the table came to an abrupt halt as they lost to Donnington Club ‘C’ 2-1. They easily lost the first two legs 20-12, 15-10 but grabbed a point in the final leg 18-17.

In Section 7 It was not unlucky thirteen for The Nut Tree’s Richard Cooper as he bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul (6-2-5) as they came away from The Golden Ball ‘B’ with maximum points. They won the first two legs 17-9, 17-14 but had to rely on three sticks in the final leg after it was tied 15-15. Tony Eeles top scored for The Golden Ball with eleven dolls.

Red Lion ‘B’ Cassington scored more dolls than their opponents Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington (43-42) in Section 8 but still ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline. The Bells won the opening leg 17-13 and was then set twelve in the next leg. The Bell’s anchor man Seamus O’Malley was left needing four to win and he did not disappoint as he clanged of the four needed with a stick to spare. Red Lion won the final leg 18-12.

In Section 10 Prince Of Wales Iffley hit their best leg score of the season in the opening leg winning it 20-12 but then went on to lose the next leg 10-11, and the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 12-12.

Section 11 title chasers Red Lion Marston almost came a cropper against basement boys The Kite ‘B’. Chasing a set of seven in the opening leg their first four players failed to trouble the doll but their last four came to the rescue to win the leg by two dolls. They vastly improved in the next leg 17-7 but had to rely on a three sticks shoot out in the final leg after it was drawn 8-8.
