Report Week 9

REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 27TH JUNE

Jeff Glenister was in electrifying form as he clanged off fourteen dolls (4-6-4) to inspire The Griffin to a comfortable 3-0 win at The Woodman Inn in Section 2. They won all three legs 22-16, 21-14, 23-18.
Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham move into second spot after they defeated The Ampleforth Arms 2-1 but had to come from behind to win a close contest. The opening leg was tied 21-21 which Ampleforth won on three sticks. Red Lion levelled in the next leg 21-19 and they then went to town in the final and deciding leg setting a high of 28, which proved too strong for The Ampleforth. Simon King top scored with thirteen dolls (5-4-4) and team mate Robert Smith chipped in with a six.
Cowley Workers scored more dolls than their visitors The Six Bells Quarry but still ended up losing. The Workers set the first leg with 22, and after a steady reply The Six Bells still left anchor man Steve Brandon needing five to win, and he did not fail to deliver whipping off the winning doll with his final stick. They then won the next leg 23-21 before The Workers grabbed a point in the final leg 22-15.

In The Premier Section Roger Goodall was in fine form as he hit fourteen dolls (5-5-4) in The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington‘s 2-1 win at home to The Gladiators ‘A’ and he was well supported by team mate Alan Goodgame who hit a bakers dozen (4-4-5). The Gladiators set a mammoth thirty five in the opening leg in which The Bells replied with twenty nine. Six Bells levelled in the next leg 27-25 and then themselves set thirty five in the final leg which proved too strong for The Glad’s who replied with twenty six.

In Section 4 it was not unlucky thirteen for Garsington Sports ‘B’ Lewis Johnson as he bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul (6-3-4) as they took maximum points at home to Donnington Club ‘A’. They won all three legs 22-12, 18-15, 18-13.
Mick Jessop was in sparkling form for Kidlington Sports Club ‘B’ as he hit his best score of the season (5-6-2) to help them to a 2-1 win over The Democrats Club. They stormed into a 2-0 lead winning both legs 16-11, 20-9 but had to concede the final leg by the odd doll 13-12.
Richard Butler from Kennington Club hit his first ever six in his eleven dolls and motivated his team to a 2-1 win over Seacourt Bridge that saw them go equal top of the section. They won the opening leg 17-15, lost the next 22-25 but won the final leg 20-17.

There was very little to choose between Vikings Sports ‘C’ and The Chequers ‘B’ in Section 5 as only one doll separated the teams. The opening leg went to The Vikings 11-10, and the second leg was tied 15-15 with The Chequers winning it on three sticks. The final leg was also tied. 11-11 and once again The Chequers won it on three sticks to give them a 2-1 win. Ian Gardiner was top dog for Vikings with a dozen dolls 5-3-4.
Bottom team Crown ‘A’ dented Donnington Club’s ‘C’ title ambitions after beating them 2-1 at home. The won the first two legs 13-10, 18-16 and only just lost the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 21-21.

In Section 7 after twenty years of trying Mike Dandridge finally hit a maximum six as The Red Lion Islip came away from Northway Club ‘A’ with all three points as the won each leg 17-11, 13-12, 20-13.
Monty Morgan was in exceptional form as he played out the anchor mans role to almost perfection for The Golden Ball ‘B’ in their home game against Red Lion ‘C’ Eynsham. Chasing a set of fifteen Morgan hit the three dolls needed to tie the opening leg which they went on to win on three sticks. Morgan then clanged off a six as they set twenty one in the next leg which was enough to give them a 2-0 lead. In the final leg Red Lion set sixteen, but Morgan was up to the task as he whipped off the four dolls needed to tie the leg once more, however Red Lion won it on three sticks this time to grab a point.

It was along drawn out affair as The Fairview Inn ‘B’ entertained The Crooked Pot in Section 8. In a rare occurrence all three legs were tied and the first leg Fairview won on one stick after it was tied 12-12, and 4-4. Fairview also won the second leg on three sticks after it was tied 10-10 but The Crooked Pot managed to grab a point in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15.

In Section 9 leaders The Crown Chalgrove suffered only their second defeat of the season as The Jolly Postboys won 2-1. The Postboys won the first two legs 14-11, 18-16 but The Crown came back well in the final leg winning it 21-7. Peter Sellar (Crown) and Kevin McMahon (Postboys) both top scored with ten dolls.

Leaders Bullnose Morris ‘B’ crashed away at The Corner House 2-1 in Section 9. Corner House won the first leg 14-11 with The Bullnose pulling a leg back in the next 14-10. Corner House made sure of victory in the final leg 17-15.
