Report Week 5

Paul Townsend smashed off fifteen dolls (5-5-5) for The Three Pigeons as they beat The New Club ‘A’ 3-0 to remain unbeaten at the top of the Premier Section. He was well supported by Neil Lyon who hit fourteen dolls (4-5-5). They won all three legs 26-21, 20-25, 29-27. Adrian Shepherd was top dog for The New Club with fourteen dolls (3-6-5).
Tim Anderson and Steve Bayliss both hit a six for The Red Lion ‘B’ Kidlington but it could not prevent them from going down 2-1 to Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham. The Kidlington men won the first leg 28-21 but Eynsham roared back to win the next two legs 27-25, 28-23.

In Section 2 Mark Washington from The Ampleforth Arms clanged off fourteen dolls (4-6-4) but it was to no avail as they lost out 2-1 at The Chequers ‘A’. Chequers got of to the perfect start when lead of man Steve Tooke hit a maximum six and they went on to take the leg 26-23. Ampleforth came back well to level in the next leg 27-22, but Chequers won the final and deciding leg 22-19.
Vikings Sports ‘B’ stormed to a 3-0 home win against Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham thanks to a fourteen doll haul from Steve Reeves (5-4-5) and anchor man Robin Charlton who hit the winning dolls in two of the three legs. Red Lion set eighteen in the opening leg however Charlton needing two to win clanged off four dolls. Vikings set and won the next leg 26-21 and the final leg Red Lion set 21. Once again Charlton clanged of four dolls when two was needed to win.

It was not unlucky thirteen for Masons ‘A’ Kevin Duffy as he hit a bakers dozen (5-2-6) in their 3-0 defeat over Green Road Club in Section 3. They won all three legs quite comfortably 22-15, 20-17, 26-20. Team mate Ernie Smith chipped in with a six in his eleven doll total.
Steve Ledwell threw well for The Original Swan ‘A’ with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) as they came from behind to beat Three Horseshoes 2-1. After losing the opening leg 17-20 Swan came back well to win the next two 22-20, 24-21. Phil Jackson hit a dozen dolls (2-5-5) for The Three Horseshoes.

In Section 5 Chandos Arms ‘B’ scored more dolls than their opponents Marston British Legion but still managed to end up losing 2-1. The Club men just won the opening leg by the odd doll 15-14 but could only manage a set of eight in the next leg which Chandos passed with ease with thirteen. The final leg was tied 13-13 with Legion winning it on a three stick shoot out.
Charlie Guinan for The Folly Bridge hit his best score of the season (4-4-3) but it did not prevent The Queens Head ‘B’ from coming away with a 2-1 victory. With the first two legs shared 18-14, 13-17 Queens won the deciding leg 21-19.
Chequers ‘B’ finally got a win under their belt after coming from behind to beat Donnington Club ‘B’ 2-1. Things were not looking good after the first leg which they lost 13-15 but they recovered to win the next leg 18-13 and finally claimed victory in the final leg 17-13. Neil Jackson top scored with nine dolls (2-3-4)

After a close first leg Queens Head ‘A’ ran out easy winners against Chandos Arms ‘A’ in Section 6. Queens Head set the first leg with twelve. A poor reply from Chandos left anchor man John Mole needing five to win and he almost succeeded just falling short with four dolls which levelled the leg. Queens Head won it on three sticks then went on to take maximum points in the next two legs 14-9, 22-13.
Pete Kennett was on fine form as he knocked off thirteen dolls 4-5-4 for Quarry Gate as they beat Masons Arms ‘B’ 2-1 after the Masons stormed in to an early lead 20-18 in the opening leg. Quarry Gate fought back well to win the next two legs 16-12, 22-14.

In Section 9 it was a long night between Brill Club ‘B’ and Donnington Club ‘B’ as the first two legs went to three stick shootouts. The first leg was tied 13-13 with Donnington winning it on three sticks, and the next leg Brill won after it was tied 11-11. The final leg Brill just won 12-11.

Florence Park Club ‘B’ from Section 11 remain the only team not to drop a leg this season after they won again 3-0 this time at home to Red Lion Marston. They won all three legs 13-9, 12-10, 12-11.
