Kevin Giles was in tremendous form has he bagged himself a brace of sixes in his seventeen doll haul (6-5-6) to lead The Three Pigeons to a 3-0 whitewash over Red Lion A Kidlington. The Three Pigeons won the first two legs 32-23, 32-30 but had to rely on a three stick shootout to take maximum points in the final leg after it was tied 29-29. Eddie Edwards chipped in with fourteen dolls (6-4-4) While Fred Sawyer top scored for The Red Lion with thirteen dolls (2-6-5).
The Cricketers Philip Adams also hit a brace of sixes (6-6-4) as they beat The Black Swan 3-0 at home in a close contest taking all three legs 23-21, 27-24, 29-28. Black Swans John Horton hit a six in his eleven doll haul.
Alan Goodgame clanged off fourteen dolls (5-5-4) for The Six Bells Kidlington but it was all in vain as they lost 2-1 at The New Club. Team Mate Steve Ward chipped in with thirteen dolls (4-5-4) as they lost 23-24, 28-22, 23-33.
In Section 2 Alan Holt was in top form as he clanged off fifteen dolls (4-5-6) to steer The Black Prince to a comfortable 3-0 win over Red Lion Yarnton. They won all three legs 18-12, 22-20, 19-13.
Ian Bowler from The Vikings B was another six hitter as hit his maximum in his thirteen doll haul in the 3-0 win at home to The Chequers ‘A’. Vikings were never in trouble as they took maximum points 21-16, 20-15, 19-15.
It was not unlucky for Mark Revill as he clanged off thirteen dolls (4-4-5) as Red Lion B Eynsham demolished Cowley Workers 3-0. They never gave the Workers a look in winning all three legs 21-14, 23-13, 17-8.
In Section 3 Rose Hill B’ had to come from behind to beat The Chequers ‘C’ in a close contest. Rose Hill set the opening leg with 18 but Chequers passed that by the odd doll thanks to anchor man Phil Hounslow who hit the three dolls needed. Chequers then set the second leg with 17 and this time it was Rose Hill’s anchor man Kevin Stuart who came to the rescue as he whipped off the four dolls needed to tie the leg which they won on three sticks. Rose Hill then claimed victory in the final leg 21-16. Stuart top scored with thirteen dolls 4-4-5).
Lewis Johnson hit two fives in his thirteen doll total as Garsington Sports ‘B’ came away from Fairview Inn A with all three points in Section 4. In a low scoring game the club men took all three legs 14-10, 15-12, 15-12.
Even though The Masons Arms beat The Chandos Arms A 3-0 in Section 6 it was closer then the result suggests. Masons won the opening leg 13-11 but the second leg was tied 14-14. Three sticks could not separate them nor could one stick, so back to six sticks which Masons won. They then went on to take all three points in the last leg 15-13.
In Section 9 The Crown Chalgrove scored more dolls then their opponents Northway Club B but still ended up losing. Northway won the opening leg 14-8, and the second on three sticks after it was tied 12-12. Crown then banged in an impressive set of 20 in the final leg which proved too much fro Northway who replied with 10.
