Report 15th June

Neil Lyon clanged off sixteen dolls (5-6-5) for The Three Pigeons, but it was to no avail as they lost out 2-1 at home to The New Club. Chasing a set of 28 Lyon was left needing six to tie the leg but fell one short with five to give the New Club an early lead. Three Pigeons then set a formidable score of 35 in the next leg which proved too strong for The New Club who replied with 28. The final and deciding leg went to The New Club 28-24. Dave Townsend chipped in with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) for The Pigeons.
The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington came away from The George with maximum points in a hard fought contest. The George set all three legs and Six Bells won the first two legs 26-22, 32-28 and in the final leg were chasing a set of 30. After an average start they were left needing nineteen from their last four players, and they responded well with anchor man Steve Ward hitting the five dolls needed to snatch the leg by the odd doll.
Billy Trinder hit fourteen dolls (6-3-5) as Headington British Legion beat Garsington Sports 2-1. 29-17, 23-24, 27-26.

Neil Pratley from The Woodman in Section 2 was in top form as he whipped off fourteen dolls (5-4-5) as they came from behind to beat The Queens Head 2-1. After losing the opening leg 15-14 they stormed back to take the next two 19-17, 20-8.
Jim Clemson also hit fourteen dolls (5-5-4) for The Six Bells Quarry as they inflicted the first defeat for The Gladiators ‘A’. The Bells had the game sewn up in the first two legs 22-18, 24-18 before The Gladiators grabbed a point in the final leg 21-14.
Paul Holt bagged himself a six in his fifteen doll haul (4-5-6) for The Squire Bassett in their comfortable 3-0 win at home to The Chequers A. They won all three legs 24-19, 26-17, 22-21.

In Section 3 The Cowley Workers started off with a bang but then things deteriorated from then on. They won the opening leg 28-15 but lost the next two 22-20, 20-19. The Workers Eamon Hanlon also had mixed fortunes as he hit eleven with his first twelve sticks (5-6) but then could only muster a one in his final throw to end up with a total of twelve.

Section 4 leaders The Fairview Inn crashed away at The Vikings’B’ 3-0. Robin Charlton led the way with a dozen dolls (2-6-4) as they won all three legs 21-15, 21-13, 18-13.

In Section 6 It was a long night at The Gladiators ‘B’ game against The Catherine Wheel ‘A’. With The Glad’s winning the first two legs 15-13, 20-17 the final leg was tied 15-15. The three stick shoot out could not separate them as they drew 8-8 and on one stick it was also tied 2-2. Back to six sticks and The Catherine Wheel finally succeeded 17-16. The Glad’s Keith Tanner top scored with eleven dolls (4-5-2)

Leaders The Nelson ‘A’ beat second place Quarry Gate 2-1. The Nelson won the opening leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15 with The Quarry Gate levelling the game in the second leg 17-14. The Nelson demolished Quarry Gate in the final leg 23-13 for whom Steve Ledwell top scored with 10 dolls. Nigel Debanks was top dog for The Quarry men with eleven dolls (4-3-4).

Anchor man Monty Morgan came to The Golden Ball’s rescue against Donington Club in the opening leg. Chasing a set of 17 they left Morgan with five to win, he fell one short with four but it took the leg into three sticks which Golden Ball ‘B’ won. They then won the next leg 15-10, but Donnington came storming back in the final leg to win it 25-13.

Masons Arms ‘B’ continue their surge up the table in Section 7 after beating The Red Lion Islip 2-1 in a close encounter. Masons set the first leg with 17 and after a slow reply from The Lion it was left to anchor man Neil Brock to whip off the four dolls needed to snatch the leg by the odd doll. Masons won the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15 and then went on to win the match in the final leg 19-13.
Mike Leonard hit his best score this season with eleven dolls (4-4-3) in their 3-0 win at home to Brill Club ‘B’, 19-12, 16-15, 14-11.

In Section 10 Original Swan ‘B’ lost their unbeaten record when they travelled to The Crown & Thistle and lost 2-1. Thistle won the opening leg 11-9, however The Swan came back well to win the next leg 20-10. The Crown & Thistle then banged in a set of 18 which proved too much for The Swan who replied with 13 to give The Thistle a well deserved win.
Despite Mick Goodenough not troubling the doll all night for The Corner House they still managed to beat The Red Lion ‘A’ Cassington 2-1. 12-7, 12-13, 9-8.

In Section 11 Ashley Plumstead threw well for The Original Swan ‘C’ with eleven dolls 4-4-3 as they took maximum points against The Prince Of Wales 13-10, 12-9, 14-5.
