Report 18th May

Dave Sawyer hit his second double sixer of the season (4-6-6) to guide The George to a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Headington British Legion in the Premier Section. Kevin Giles also chipped in with a six in his thirteen dolls as they won all three legs 30-26, 27-24, 34-26.
The Cricketers also had a 3-0 success but almost blew it in the second leg in their clash against The Black Swan. After winning the opening leg 29-23 Cricketers were chasing a set of 26 in the next leg, and after five players they only had twelve on the board. Needing fifteen from their last three players Geoff Townsend started the fight back with a six, Kevin Baker followed up with a four and anchor man Den Seller finished of the job with a five hitting the winning doll from his last stick. They then went on to take maximum points in the final leg 28-26.
There was very little to separate The Three Pigeons and The Six Bells as they both hit eighty seven dolls. Pigeons set the first leg with 31 and in reply Six Bells got of to the perfect start with Fred Sawyer smashing off a six but it still left anchor man Steve Ward needing six to tie the leg, which he succeeded to take the leg to three sticks, which Six Bells won. The Bells then won the next leg 25-24 with The Pigeons grabbing a point in the last leg by the odd doll 32-31. Sawyer top scored with fifteen dolls (6-4-5).

In Section 4 Simon Hopkins blasted off a bakers dozen (4-4-5) as Green Road Club came from behind to defeat The Masons Arms 2-1. Masons won the first leg 18-14 but Green Road Club came storming back to take the next two legs 28-16, 21-14.
Pete Hithman led the way with fourteen dolls (5-4-5) for The Griffin as they just got the better over Garsington Sports B 2-1 in a close game. Griffin won the opening leg 21-11 and then set 20 in the next leg. After a steady reply Garsingtons anchor man Len Wing still left needing four to win, which proved to be no problem as he clanged off five dolls to level the match. Griffin set the final and deciding leg with 23 which proved just too strong for the Sports men as they fell two short with 21.

It was unlucky thirteen for Donnington Clubs A Brian Simpson in Section 5 as he bagged himself a six in his bakers dozen (3-6-4) but his team still ended up losing 2-1 to The Cricketers. They actually outscored The Cricketers but lost out 18-19, 25-16, 18-21.
Darren St John was in superb form as he whipped off fourteen dolls (5-5-4) to help The New Club B defeat local rivals King & Queen Wheatley 2-1. They won the first two legs 23-15, 23-18 with King & Queen claiming a point in the final leg 19-18.

In Section 6 only one doll separated Gladiators B and Quarry Gate A with two of the legs going to three sticks. The first leg went to The Glad’s on three sticks after it was tied 17-17. Gladiators took a two nil lead in the next leg 17-16 but Quarry grabbed a point in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15.

Brill Club ‘B’ amassed fifty eight dolls in Section 7 but it was still not enough as they lost out to Red Lion Islip who hit seven dolls less with fifty one. Alan Horton (4-4-3) for Brill and Derek Brook (5-3-3) for The Red Lion top scored in the leg scores of 17-18, 24-14, 17-19.

Barrie Tollerson clanged off a steady dozen dolls (4-4-4) for The Fairview Inn B as they defeated Donnington Club B 2-1 in Section 9. Fairview comfortably won the first two legs 17-12, 18-10 before Donnington came back well to win the final leg 17-16.
The Priory A came away from Kings Arms Wheatley with maximum points as they won all three legs 11-8, 13-11, 14-13, with anchor man Brian Reidy knocking off the five dolls needed to win the last leg.
