Report 28th April

Premier holders Six Bells ‘C’ got of to the perfect start of the new season with a 3-0 home win against newly promoted Black Swan. Fred Sawyer led the way with fifteen dolls 5-4-6 as they took the first leg 29-26. Black Swan set the next leg with 27 but Six Bells again hit 29 to take a 2-0 lead. Bells set the final leg with an impressive 31 which proved to strong for The Black Swan who replied with 23. Alan Goodgame chipped in with fourteen dolls 5-4-5 for the Bells.
Dethroned champions The Cricketers’ B’ who will push the Six Bells all the way this season to regain the crown also started of with a 3-0 win at home to Garsington Sports Club. Barry Townsend (6-4-4), Philip Adams (5-4-5) and Kevin Baker (4-6-4) all hit fourteen dolls as they cruised to an early lead in the first leg 33-26. Garsington set 24 in the second leg but Cricketers passed it with ease with a score of 32. They then claimed maximum points in the final leg 29-25. Ken Maunder top scored for the Sports men with a bakers dozen (5-5-3).
Section One champions White Hart came away from Premier Side The George with a hard fought 2-1 win. The George stormed into an early lead winning the opening leg 31-18 and was then set 27 in the next leg. After a good start they faltered and fell one doll short to let The White Hart level the game. White Hart won the deciding leg 29-27. Mick Berry top scored for the White Hart with thirteen dolls (4-4-5).

Twenty two years of heartache finally came to an end for Kidlington Sports Alex Gordon as he hit his first ever six in the 2-1 win over The Woodman in Section 2. Woodman won the first leg 21-17 but lost the next two 22-25, 21-25. Neil Pratley was in fine form with 4-4-6 for The Woodman.

It was a long opening leg between Team Monarch & Cowley Workers in Section 3 as they tied the leg 18-18, and then 9-9 on three sticks. The one stick shot out finally separated them with Team Monarch taking it 4-3. Cowley Workers must have felt worn out as they lost the next two legs 24-17, 21-17. Chris Webb hit a steady 4-4-4 for the workers while Martin Cook (5-4-3) & Darren Cox (4-4-4) also hit a dozen dolls.

There was little to separate The King & Queen & Nelson ‘B’ in Section 5 as two legs went to three sticks. Nelson won the opener on three sticks after the leg was tied 14-14. King & Queen won the second leg 20-15, and won the match in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15.

Despite Wally Brown failing to trouble the doll all night The Blackbird still managed to come away from North Oxford Con Club with a 2-1 victory in Section 8. They won the first leg 18-11 but lost the next one 11-10. Blackbird set and won the final leg 16-9. Dave Simms was top dog with a dozen dolls 5-3-4.

In Section 9 Rob Bustin with eleven dolls (5-3-3) helped The Crown overcome The Original Swan 2-1. Crown won the opening leg 16-10 but The Swan levelled in the next leg 10-9. Crown then set 13 in the final leg which was more than enough as The Swan could only reply with 8.
