Report Week 3 May 12th

In the Premier/ Section One clashes, John Townsend was in exceptional form as he clanged off 16 dolls 5-6-5 for The Cricketers as they had to come from behind to beat The Gladiators 2-1. Cricketers set the opening leg with 30, and despite a seven doll start Gladiators could only muster 13 with their first four players, but the tail wagged with Martin Cook banging off a six and anchor man Keith Weller whipping off five dolls to take the leg by the odd doll. Cricketers levelled in the second leg 31-26 and was then set an impressive 32 in the final leg. Cricketers responded well and won the leg and game with a score of 35.
After almost a season out Dave Sawyer banged in 15 dolls 5-5-5 for The George as they had a comfortable win over The Rowing Machine 3-0. They won all three legs 32-19, 30-21, 25-22. Steve Walton chipped in with a bakers dozen 5-6-2.

In Section 2 there was very little to separate The Punch Bowl and Six Bells Quarry as the last two legs went to three sticks. Punch Bowl won the opening leg 17-14 with The Six Bells winning the second leg on three sticks after tying the leg 21-21. The final leg was also tied 19-19, this time The Punch Bowl taking it on three sticks to win the game 2-1. Simon Somerscales for The Punch Bowl top scored with a dozen dolls 5-3-4.
Black Swan had to come from behind to beat Cowley Workers in a close contest. Workers won the opening leg 21-19 but lost the next leg on three sticks after the leg was drawn 24-24. Black Swan won the deciding leg 20-16. Martin Green hit 14 dolls 4-5-5 for The Black Swan.

Democrats Dan Thompson failed to trouble the doll in the first leg against Viking Sports in Section 3, but then clanged off all six in the next leg. It was all in vain though as Vikings won all three legs 19-11, 23-22, 23-17. Alan Davies for The Vikings hit a steady 5-4-3.

In Section 4 North Oxford Con Club grabbed their first win of the season with a 3-0 win at The King & Queen. Martin Giles led the way with 12 dolls 5-3-4 in the 18-11, 16-15, 18-16 victory.

After a disastrous start in the opening leg Duke Of Monmouth recovered to win the game 2-1 against The Red Lion in Section 7. They could only manage a score of seven in the first leg but recovered well to take the next two 19-15, 17-10. Steve Califano top scored with 9 dolls while Red Lion’s Alan Wilkins bagged himself eleven dolls 4-4-3.

In Section 9 The Cavalier & The Black Horse both hit 38 dolls but it was The Black Horse that came away victorious. With the game nicely poised at 1-1 The Cavalier set 15 in the final leg. After a steady reply it was left to anchor man Jason Baker to whip of the two dolls needed to take the leg and game.
