Mark Buckland clanged off 15 dolls (6-4-5) for The Plough as they beat Viking Sports 2-1 in Section 2. Plough won the opening leg 22-18 with Vikings levelling in the second leg 15-14. Vikings set 22 in the deciding leg but it was not enough as Plough sailed by at ease with 27 dolls.
Dick Walsh also hit 15 dolls (5-5-5) as The Six Bells Kidlington came away from New Club with maximum points in the Premier Section. They had to rely on three sticks in the opening leg after the leg was tied 28-28. The next two legs were not as close as they won them 27-24, 31-23. Adrian Shepherd top scored for New Club with 13 dolls 5-3-5. Cricketers Temple Cowley are just one point from retaining the Premier title after beating second place The George 2-1. Cricketers only set 25 in the first leg but it was enough to see of The George as they could only reply with 23. George redeemed themselves in the next leg taking it 31-30. Cricketers then set a massive 34 in the deciding leg which was more than enough with The George replying with 29. Cricketer’s Philip Adams was top dog with 13 dolls 4-4-5.
The top two clashed in Section Two and it was The Six Bells Quarry who came out on top beating leaders The Chequers 2-1. They had to do it the hard way after losing the first leg 22-15 they won the next leg 21-15. The final and deciding leg went to three sticks after the leg was tied 23-23, Six bells winning it. The Dogwood move within one point of the leaders after a close encounter with The New Club. They won 3-0 but it was much closer than the result suggests. The first leg was tied 17-17 and had to be decided on three sticks. Dogwood won the next leg 16-11 and the final leg on three sticks again after the leg was tied 21-21. John Allnutt was in cracking form as he clanged off 14 dolls (5-3-6) for The Gladiators as they beat The George ‘B’ 2-1. 23-22, 18-23, 29-25. Steve Bayliss hit a baker’s dozen 4-5-4 for The George.
Quarry Gate shocked pace setters The Woodman in Section 3 by coming away with all three points. Quarry Gate won all legs 18-16, 16-15, 19-10. Leaders Red Lion Marston lost away at The Gardiner Arms 2-1. They got off to a good start winning the opening leg 15but then lost the next two 18-19, 14-16.
In Section 8 Graham Morton was in cracking form for The Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington as he whipped off 13 dolls (4-5-4) in their 2-1 win at The Jolly Sportsman. They won the first two legs 17-11, 22-10 but lost the final leg 13-10.
Littlemore Rugby Club blew away their closest rivals Jolly Postboys 3-0 in Section 9. Stephen Maylon led the way with 10 dolls as they took maximum points 16-11, 18-16, 20-11. Kevin McMahon hit his first ever six as The Blackbird won the local derby against The Nelson ‘B’ 2-1. McMahon could not have got off to a worst start as he failed to trouble the doll in the first leg, hit a three in the next leg and then a six in the final leg. Nelson went into an early lead winning the opening leg 17-10. Blackbird levelled in the next leg 15-13 and won the final and deciding leg 15-13.
Donnington Club are Champions of Section 11 after beating Catherine Wheel 2-1. It was a long night at Oxford Rugby Club as they played hosts to Headington British Legion. The first leg was tied 8-8 and as three sticks could not separate them the Legion won it on a one stick shoot out. Legion won the next leg by the odd doll 13-12 and the final leg was tied 11-11. Three sticks again could not separate them and this time The Rugby Club won it on one stick.
