Week 5

Games played on Wednesday 24th May

Kevin Giles was in extraordinary form as he clanged off sixteen dolls (5-5-6) for The Gladiators ‘A’ but it was all in vain as The Woodman came from behind to secure a remarkable victory considering without the handicap Gladiators actually scored sixteen more dolls than The Woodman. Gladiators won the opening leg at a canter 30-20 and in the second leg The Woodman set 28. In reply The Gladiators faltered near the end and fell two dolls short with 26. The final and deciding leg Gladiators set with an impressive 31. After a steady start in reply The Woodman left their anchor man Mark Rollins needing five to win and after missing with his first stick it looked unlikely, but he steadied himself and whipped off the next five dolls to give The Woodman a narrow win with 32.
It was a long night at The Three Pigeons as they played hosts to Garsington Sports Club ‘A’. Three Pigeons set and won the first leg 30-28 and was then set 28 in the second leg. A four from The Pigeons anchor man Neil Lyon tied the leg with the Pigeons winning it on three sticks. Pigeons then set the final leg with 23 which Garsington matched, but once again Pigeons won it on three sticks to give them a 3-0 win. Darren Cox was in top form for Garsington with fifteen dolls (5-5-5) while Paul Townsend (5-5-3) and Neil Lyon (5-4-4) both hit thirteen for The Pigeons.
Rob Bradford led The Black Prince with fourteen dolls (3-6-5) to a 3-0 home win against The George ‘A’ in the leg scores of 26-17, 25-22, 33-27.
Mark Hewitson bagged himself a six in his thirteen doll haul (6-3-4) for The Swan B in their 2-1 home win over Red Lion ‘A’. The damage was done in the first two legs which The Swan won 23-21, 26-19, but The Red Lion grabbed a point in the last leg by the odd doll 24-23. Simon King hit a baker’s dozen for The Swan (4-5-4).

In Section 2 Roger Alder from The Chequers ‘C’ hit his first ever six in his eleven dolls (3-2-6) as they came from behind to beat hosts The Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry in the leg scores of 22-17, 15-22, 16-23.
Six Bells ‘E’ Kidlington remain unbeaten after they beat Donnington Club ‘A’. They won all three legs 25-21, 25-20, 20-19.

Garsington Sports ‘B’ still rule the roost in Section 3 but nearly came unstuck against Vikings ‘B’ who are propping up the table. The first leg was tied 15-15 with Garsington winning it on three sticks. Garsington then won the next leg comfortably 23-14 and then just sneaked the final leg by the smallest of margins 21-20. Steve Reeves was top dog for Vikings with a steady twelve dolls (4-4-4).
It wasn’t unlucky thirteen for The Blackbirds Brian Reidy as he clanged off a baker’s dozen (3-5-5) for The Blackbird in their 2-1 home win over New Club ‘B’ in the leg scores of 17-19, 22-18, 17-13.
King & Queen scored eight more dolls then their hosts Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington but still managed to lose the game 2-1. The Bells set and won the opening leg 19-18 but The King & Queen hit back hard in the next leg 24-13. Six Bells set 18 in the final leg but it was enough as the King & Queen could only reply with 16.

Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington keep up their unbeaten run in Section 4 with a 3-0 win at The Swan C. They won all three legs 18-12, 22-16, 15-13.
Democrats Club ‘A’ thought they was on for their first win of the season when they won the first leg at Littlemore British Legion ‘A’ 16-15 but it went downhill from there as they lost the next two legs 17-10, 21-19.
It seems this season it’s not the amount of dolls you score but when you score them as The George ‘B’ was another team to outscore their opponents but ended up losing. They scored 54 dolls to Rose Hill Clubs 50 but lost the first two legs 19-18, 16-14 before winning the last leg with ease 22-15. Dean Jacobs threw well for The George with twelve dolls (4-4-4).

In Section 5 Andy Clare was in magnificent form as he bagged himself a six in his fourteen doll haul (3-6-5) for Vikings Sports Club ‘D’ 2-1 win away at The Chequers ‘B’ in the leg scores of 15-11, 15-16, 16-23.
Cricketers Littleworth finally got a win under their belt as they beat high flying The Masons Arms ‘B’ 3-0 in a very close contest. Cricketers set and won the opening leg 14-13 and then chasing a set of eleven in the next leg beat it by one with twelve. The third leg Cricketers set and won 15-13.
Veteran Mick Beane rolled back the years for Seacourt Bridge ‘A’ as he clanged off a four in the opening leg to tie it after they were set 20 by The Fox & Goat. Seacourt won the leg on three sticks. Fox & Goat levelled in the next leg 16-14. Seacourt wrapped up victory in the final leg setting and wining it 18-16.

In Section 6 Florence Park Club started badly after only hitting 10 in reply to visitors Black Horse ‘B’ set of 16. However they rallied in the next two legs hitting 20 & 25 which was too much for The Black Horse who replied with 14 & 14 to give The Club men a well deserved 2-1 win.
Donnington Club ‘B’ and Original Swan ‘A’ both hit 49 dolls apiece but it was The Swan that came out winners. The first leg went to the Swan after it was tied 19-19. Donnington levelled in the next leg 16-14. The deciding leg went ot The Swan 16-14.

Prince Of Wales came away from Northway Club ‘B’ with all three points in Section 7 but it was much closer than the score reflects. They won the first leg 17-15 but the next two was won by the odd doll 13-12, 11-10.
